Twisted Sister, a band probably most known nowadays for wearing women's clothes, generally looking "hideous" (as Dee has said himself) and a few of their popular singles, which I always found a great shame because their albums are well worth listening to.

Of course they were strongest in the eighties and the common opinion is that after their "Stay Hungry" album, they just went downhill and nothing else was worth listening to.
This is where I disagree to an extent, as this album "Love Is For Suckers" is ranked in my opinion just as highly as "Stay Hungry".
"Love Is For Suckers" is one of those albums that you either love or you hate; there is no in-between about it.

The album kicks off with the powerful "Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)" to warm us up - and then straight into the so typically eighties sounding "Hot Love" and then the highly catchy "Love Is For Suckers".
The albums works it's way through with plenty more catchy songs (such as "Me And The Boys" and "I Want This Night...") and bucket loads of eighties feel - and finally ends with the almost punkish in some aspects "Yeah Right", which should leave the listener with a good impression of the album afterwards.

The album does not show such a high pace as songs such as "Stay Hungry" or "What You Don't Know..." from previous albums, nor anything with such emotion as "The Price", but the album is very consistent at delivering good, solid and enjoyable chunks of rock/metal.

I think it is safe to say if you love the feel of hard rock and heavy metal from the eighties then you are going to enjoy this album. I recommend to anyone who likes this sort of music from this time period.

Well, I disagree with this review, because IMO Love Is For Suckers is a Sucky album. I did like older TS albums however. Under The Blade is still my favourite and then Stay Hungry, then Come OPut And Play and then miles later Love Is For Suckers, IMO they went downhill with every respective album after Under The Blade.
But I am glad to see that there are people who apparently disagree with me on that.

yeh, i got the impression this was a marmite album - you either love it or hate it
i think 'Come Out And Play' is their worst by far although i like their cover of 'Leader Of The Pack' on that album

but yeh, as well as this one - i think their first three full lengths are all fantastic as well. when i saw them live on their reunion tour, they did a lot off 'Under The Blade' so i like listening to that one to remind me of that

I'm quite open to glam and a slick production but this has nothing on their earlier work. Sure, there is a good chorus or two, but Twisted Sister are far better rockers than songwriters, if you get my meaning Their punky, energetic metal simply had an enormous appeal while this is only pleasant at best.

For the record, I neither love or hate the album. Guess the exceptions prove the rule.

I need to agree with you. I love this album either it isn't my favorite. Love 80's glam bands and TS is one of my favorite, SH, COAP and LIFS are great albums with a lot of great songs. Love Is For Suckers is one of my top 5 TS songs ever written (such a great lyrics specially chorus).

Good review and great album.
