2011 Stuff I Spun A Lot (last update: February 2012)
2011 Stuff I Spun A Lot (last update: February 2012)
In order roughly, by the number of spins. A lot = A LOT. So when I give ten more spins to the rest of the albums I've listened to, and forgot to rate most probably, this will grow larger. Or not. I'm making this for me anyway.

1.
Subsignal
- Touchstones
Progressive rock/metal. First it seemed like it was just another fine release, but after a couple of spins I fell so much in love with it, it now rivals my all-time favorite albums. The joys of love. Guess that's because of the very essence of Sieges Even/Subsignal in its fibres.

2.
Symphony X
- Iconoclast
Progressive metal. Ya, I thought this would be boring and the new Dream Theater would be decent, so you can go ahead and shoot me. SyX just slays on this one, no questions asked.

4.
Pain Of Salvation
- Road Salt Two
Genuine bluesy/retro prog. Genuine pain. Much more honest than the first Road Salt, although I enjoy that one too.

|
5.
Iced Earth
- Dystopia
Heavy/power metal. Nothing like a nice singer transition. Not that I had much against Barlow, but when Stu Block joined the band, my interest piqued. I've enjoyed Dystopia greatly.

7.
Wolverine
- Communication Lost
Emotional progressive metal. Maybe a tad less enjoyable than their previous album but kick-ass nonetheless.
|
|
9.
Insomnium
- One For Sorrow
Melodic death metal. Insomnium's "same old" is pretty much awesome in my book.

12.
The Man-Eating Tree
- Harvest
Gothic metal. Emotive vocals and crafty musicians behind them make this a very worthy release.
|
|
13.
Poisonblack
- Drive
Some try-hard Suomi metal saved by an awful lot of bluesy tendencies, which I liked a lot more than their last year's failure.
|
|
14.
Shadowside
- Inner Monster Out
Badass power metal. And one of the best vocalists to emerge last year.
|

17.
Before The Dawn
- Deathstar Rising
Melodic death metal. Meant as a soundtrack for winter. Not as strong as a usual Finnish winter but it can pass in my Serbian climate. Tuomas, you get a nice grade from me at last.

18.
Voyager
- The Meaning Of I
Quirky proggy goodness. If you're into Voyager, you know what to expect; if not, boy, you're in for a surprise.

19.
Graveyard
- Hisingen Blues
This is essentially a Led Zep album. Now, I don't wet my panties over Led Zep. But I do love this.

21.
Fluxious
- Why So Serious?
This is that jazz with heavy distortion everyone and their mother fell in love with this year.
|
|
22.
Ava Inferi
- Onyx
This lovely doomy/gothic metal act from Portugal is bound to leave you speechless.
|
|
23.
Derek Sherinian
- Oceana
Instrumental prog. I've spent a lot of hot steamy nights under the blanket with this, and I look forward to exploring Derek's previous albums more.
