Great idea for a list. It's basically a sequel to my list ( http://www.metalstorm.net/users/list.php?list_id=2645).
Now it's my turn to recommend albums to you and it's up to you to decide whether to add them or not. Sadly, I don't have the time to do so right now, so I'll be back.

Totally DISAGREE with Testament, The Mars Volta, Mastodon, Dio, Candlemass. Especially when it comes to Testament, The New Order is only half decent whereas The Legacy was all killer, no filler, total classic album

Haven't heard all of those, but Candlemass? If you don't like it, then why is Nightfall on your facebook profile photo?

who says I don't like Nightfall?
Imo Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is superior to Nightfall. The list maker was talking about second albums being better than the debut.
As to why Nightfall is on my FB profile picture? Read At The Gallow's End lyrics and then read the lyric part on the whisky bottle The picture was taken at a vinyl eveing at my place which had as theme alcohol

Argh My bad then. Damn, haven't read that discription carefully enough (and now that I've carefully read it, I notice a spelling mistake ). And those lyrics on the bottle are pretty awesome.
Anyway, I thought this list was basically my debut albums list, but then for all the second albums. In that case, I'll never like this list a whole lot. I disagree with Candlemass as well then. Also disagree with Emperor and WITTR (though I like Two Hunters only slightly less, it's not a big difference at all... same is true for Emperor).
Too bad then, this actually could've been a great idea for a list, but now it's definitely not. If he just made a list of "great sophomore albums" then I'd think it's a good idea.

AHHH, COMMENT FLOOD! Haha, this thing was dead for the first day or two I posted it. But anyway, yeah this list is intended to be a list that promotes sophomore albums, NOT necessarily meaning that I believe the sophomore effort is better than the debut. It's noting albums in which I felt the artist provided an album that is quality. I haven't really but as much stock into rating albums for a while, so my personal view on debut vs. follow-up accompanies with it feelings of content for both sides. Running through those albums, I think The Legacy is better than New World Order and I could probably side with Epicus Doomicus Metallicus over Nightfall. However, I could go either way with The Mars Volta, Mastodon and Dio. Dio for me would be the most likely candidate for sophomore better than debut.

Well, in that case you'll have to change the discription then, because as Marcel said it's rather confusing right now. And since I'm having a busy weekend with concerts and all I still don't have the time to give my recommendations. I'll be back tomorrow.

As I said, you'll have to change the discription so it's making more sense. Anyway, here are my recommendations (all of these are 9's and 10's for me, so I think every single one of them is excellent/brilliant, although I'm not sure whether they're all your kind of music since I included quite a few gothic and/or doom albums):
- After Forever - Decipher
- Anathema - The Silent Enigma
- Desire - Locus Horrendus - The Night Cries Of A Sullen Soul...
- Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell
- Empyrium - Songs of Moors and Misty Fields
- Estatic Fear - A Sombre Dance
- Evereve - Stormbirds
- Galadriel - The Mirror of Ages
- Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness
- Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
- Limbonic Art - In Abhorrence Dementia
- Moonspell - Irreligious
- Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus
- My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
- October Falls - The Womb of Primordial Nature
- Summoning - Minas Morgul
- Theatre of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear
- Tristania - Beyond the Veil
So that's basically it for my suggestions. Really amazing albums, all of those.

How about Lord, Sinergy, Swashbuckle, Gallhammer (my opinion only), Immortal and Mayhem (I'm probably gonna cop it for that last one).

Now I feel a bit silly by actually naming all of the albums while it wasn't even necessary in the first place. Could've just summed up all those bands and it would've saved me some time too. On the other hand, checking those albums out (IF he does that) is definitely easier for Nosurper now since he doesn't have to search the album title.

It might be a great list to some people, but not to me. There are way too many favourites of mine (some really excellent essential albums) missing for me to really like it, 18 albums in fact. Not saying he should add all of those albums, but still most of 'em.

I own Songs of Moors and Misty Fields but have never been enamoured with it. I may consider adding it at some point. I am unfamiliar with much gothic metal, although I've heard of many of the bands you listed Emols, I haven't listened to them. I'm not really sure if gothic metal is my thing tbh. But, I have checked out Limbonic Art and am interested in giving In Abhorrence Dementia a listen. My Dying Bride interests me as well. I'll be checking some of these recs out for sure.

In my opinion Songs of Moors and Misty Fields is essential. Not everything I recommended is gothic metal... a lot of doom too, but seeing your list doom isn't exactly your favourite genre either. Also, Limbonic Art and My Dying Bride are absolutely essential. Other essentials are Green Carnation (this is definitely music for you, so check it out), Katatonia (a true death/doom masterpiece and classic), Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania (those last two are brilliant gothic metal albums). But then again, every album I mentioned received a 9/10 or 10/10 from me...

I also own Katatonia's Brave Murder Day and it didn't tug at my heartstrings at all like I suppose it should. I will definetly check out Green Carnation though, as well as others.
And I like some doom, but I'm partial to traditional doom.

And some death doom
Well, (the albums I mentioned of) Anathema, Desire, Katatonia, Mourning Beloveth and My Dying Bride are all death/doom for sure. I didn't mention any traditional doom, sadly... simply because I don't know enough about it. Death/doom is probably my favourite subgenre ever, so I know a lot of stuff in that area.
