One of the major reasons I began listening to metal was because of horror/dark lyrical content. Albums like King Diamond | Abigail, Venom | Black Metal, and Exorcist | Nightmare Theater, really inspired my musical interests. Concept related songs and albums are interesting, I prefer material that tells a story, like Edge of Sanity's Crimson I&II. Another good list, I'll definitely check some of these out.
Thx D

Prefer this list to the Tolkein one. Much more musically diverse, and quite frankly much stronger musically as well.

Those albums are ultimate classics in the horror metal genre, and as I love dark and creepy themes in metal too. I don't think those 3 are Lovecraft related, but still they are great albums.

Thanks, I took me a while to find most of these albums, the ones I already know and have listened to are Bal-Sagoth, Electric Wizard, Nile and Septicflesh. I've also noticed that most of the bands I've found are early death or thrash metal.

Again a nice list you created. I of course like Aarni (but there's lots of doom in them, so I'd say they're "avantgarde doom" ), but also Bal-Sagoth, Colosseum, The Great Old Ones, Nile and Solstice (but their debut is definitely better if you ask me, due to totally annoying vocals on New Dark Age... not sure if the debut is Lovecraft inspired though).
Any plans on yet another new list soon?

Well, the only idea for a new list I have right now is the sequel to my most recent list, so a list of two-man band albums. I'm almost done with the one-man band albums list, but I'm not in a hurry to make another list right away, so it might be weeks or even months from now when I'll create it.

Isn't Brown Jenkins - Death Obsession supposed to be on this list? Totally amazing album, so better than most albums on this list if you ask me (the ones that I know).

I think I missed adding that band on here, it definitely fits on the list. Thanks Erik
Not strange that you missed it, seeing as it's far from popular. Let me know what you think of it. I think it's either a hate or love thing with that album... and you already know what I think of it. Pretty hypnotic and addictive album.

Nox Arcana's Necronomicon is clearly an homage to Lovecraft.

I was hesitant to add this, as it's not a metal album, but I might as well add to the list.

Skaphos first album is based on Lovecraft's story The Temple
Their first music video is clearly inspired by old movies :

And the next one is imo the continuation of the story

I saw them in concert and they bring a real Lovecraftian ambience on stage, it worth it
