Not nessecary my current favourites, but these are the albums that had a great impact on me or had opened up new horizons in different sub-genres. Most of these would be pretty recent and mainstream but I only started listening to Metal in 2007 after all. They are in chronological order of which I listened to them through these few years.

(2000) Extreme Power Metal; First experience with harsh vocals

(2004) Symphonic / Industrial Black Metal; The only album that blows me away every single time

(2009) Progressive Metal; The album that got me into Prog properly

(2006) Industrial Thrash Metal; Devin Townsend is amazing, both as a composer and musician

(2008) Progressive Metalcore; The album that made me realise there are gems among the Metalcore genre, absolutely hectic and no time to get bored
