What about this album calls for a remaster?

Well, I've pretty much gotten used to it now, but when I listen to The Mantle and then Pale Folklore, it tends to sound a bit... ugly. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't really take away from the album, hence the 9 rating. (I mean, it's not like I'm the only one who thinks this).

yes, it's rougher than their newer stuff, but that's why I've come to like it most.
and yes, i'm quoting your year-old comment.

I think the production on this album does hurt it. It shouldn't receive a full crystal clear remaster of course but I think it could be made a little better.

Haha yes, that's the big factor here. I've actually come to like the production a lot, and yes, I do think it makes the album better and more 'unique' in a way. I still prefer the sound of The Mantle and Marrow better, but this is a great sound that suits the style of music.

Yep, pretty much the only complaint I have about this album. I think the transitions from one song to another could be a lot better, since it's definitely hurting the overall quality of the album. The other albums don't have this specific complaint at all, luckily. So yeah, this album would be one of the rare cases I'd definitely buy (again) if they remastered it.

Awesome release, it's my second favorite album by Agalloch (behind The Mantle), and the first one I've heard from them.

Just bought this, the booklet has all the lyrics in shiny golden color as the band logo in the album cover. It's so damn beautiful.

Exelent masterpice, more folk, more folk elements then into demo, I realy enjoy this was I was playing it like 10 times this week and I like song where
he was more screaming in weird vocals
''I saw the nightfall, it called to me like a river of shadows
It sang to me with the cries of a thousand ravens
That blackened the sky as they took flight and sank the Sol
I shall never trust the sun again, Eridanis Nadir''
actualy every song is good one, good to try and good to stick, this band never can make you bored

All the albums, being released by Agalloch I have rated with the perfect mark. I consider these guys being some kind of musical magicians as all albums are really masterpieces!
Just have a close look to this album.. Folk, black, symphonic elements are combined to create a little bit sad and melancholic atmosphere, I would even call it philosophic atmosphere, which reminds about past events even from childhood.
Anyway, perfect album from real masters!

but on a vinyl there is no real way of telling when one track ends and another starts anyway. they are only split on cd/digital as they are different files. its all the same groove in a record, even going into tracks 4 onwards. i dont know if that made any sense.

Actually there is a way to tell as you can see the separating lines pretty clearly.
Overall, one of my most beloved Agalloch records (along with The Mantle).
My favourite tracks: She Painted Fire Across The Skyline, Dead Winter Days.

Probably their most folky sounding in the traditional sense, it's a great album indeed but this was only the beginning for them, The Mantle followed and the rest is history.
