Additional info
The artwork was created by Portuguese photographer Rui Luz and THY CATAFALQUE mastermind Tamás Kátai. "The album title means 'vast, trackless forest' in obsolete Hungarian language", Tamás explains. "It's a kind of summary of what the whole record is about. This word is a symbol, it means more than merely a forest".

It was recorded that he, one of history's finest war commanders, kept a journal chronicling the major events of his life. However, something mysteriously strange happened shortly after his death; the last page of his diary was torn out never to be found again?

The Prophecy

"We had previously captured Belgrade, Rhodes and nearly Rome; the moment of penetrating the virgin leas of Hungary through its Carpathian Mountains has never been more propitious. And so, I marched. With an army of sixty thousand men, I marched. Until the sun darkened dim, I marched. Until it finally peered on the far side of a boundless tassel-withered cornfield somewhere near Makó - a vast, trackless forest girdled by a wreath of darkness and swollen mist perching nigh the field wherein we stood like the roaming shadow of Óðr. We stood staggered, leering at the beguiling woodland that God had left untrodden; torn by senescence, dust and solitude for only demons to feast on. The masterpiece was complete when a Septentrional draught stirred amidst the five giant trees guarding its gates revealing in the process the message that was engraved on the trunk of the tallest; the prophecy:

What? Isn't "Beautiful" descriptive enough? OK, fine then, what about "avant-garde atmospheric metal with BM roots"? Yeah, that's what I thought. Beautiful is better.

And Hungarian does really sound poetic.

Meh album.

I wouldn't go that far. I gave it another chance today, and I must say Rengeteg is quite a nice album.
Truly labels can be misleading. When I read "avantgarde black metal" I expect to hear something like Ephel Duath, or Sigh, or Smohalla, for example. But the music that's presented on this album is closer to (dark) folk metal. At least, most of melodic lines have deep roots in folk music. And this is also the source of the album's greatest shortcoming, in my humble opinion - its repetitiveness. For example, in Kel keleti szél the same riff is played for almost all the 4 minutes that song lasts.
But there are also some bright moments, like the build-up in the beginning of Vashegyek, and some melodic lines are very catchy.
All in all, I'll be expecting some great music from this band in the future.

Lol, the "intro" into Holdkamp is a PA announcement at the Kiev railway station, and in the middle of the song they are using a phrase that was spoken in the morning before all central TV channels started their work in the Soviet Union (I guess). Translation in the video below.

Every time I come back to this album I have to listen to it for a few days. I absolutely love it. The two albums before it are spectacular as well. I don't even care about the translations- it's nice to know- but phonetically, Hungarian sounds quite alright to my ears. Easily my number 1 for 2011.

Good album indeed, catchy but complex at the same time. My favourite songs are Kel keleti szél and Kék ingem lobogó. I'm so proud this guy is from my country.

Just ordered this the other day. Worth every penny!

My only complaint about this album is that in spite of the near 60 minute runtime, I still felt like it was too short!

But seriously, I love how this album is very catchy and fun to listen to, but at the same time very unique and experimental.

Musically this is excellent but those fucking clean vocals and especially the female one ruin it for me. Jeez I wished they just shut up and do music.

I don't have a problem with those clean vocals myself, but he's much better in his side project Taranis.

Just re-listened to this today and most likely this is the weakest among the last 4 Thy Catafalque records. Half a decade later and still my impression on this remains the same when I first heard it. The second half is quite strong though and the fast parts are nice but looks like a moderation and just too melodic compared to all the other ones. And just not heavy enough when it gets heavy. Still some cool stuff though.

I've been working my way back through Thy Catafalque's discography and I think I prefer his later albums a little more but Rengeteg is fantastic.

There is still a ton a variety during this era even though the overall atmosphere of this album stays fairly consistent. Most of the extreme metal is towards the bookends of the album with the middle being filled by many softer trance inducing passages. The muddy guitars were off putting at first but they do provide a needed dirty layer to an otherwise rather clean production. The album is full of excellent vocals and great memorable melodies which create a very dream-like vibe with sounds from the spooky carnival next door occasionally seeping in.

I think I love almost every song but Vashegyek usually loses me at least a couple times during its run just because it isn't as engaging. Otherwise everything before that and everything after that make up two completely solid chunks of this very enjoyable album.
