Alcest, after their first demo, "Tristesse Hivernale", offer their first official EP, consisting only of two compositions filled with lyricism, evoking imaginary landscapes that present in a beautiful way the melancholy and dismay of winter.

What this French band offers is black metal, but it's not your typical black that has over-flooded the scene. Let's see the songs one by one since they are not that many and each of the compositions has a different approach in terms of structure, yet they pace so beautifully together in the overall outcome.

How about adding the 2011 re-release to the database? It contains new versions of the songs, so it can be considered as brand new material from the band. A lot of re-recorded albums have been added separately from the "original" releases (Dimmu's "Stormblast" - "Stormblast MMV", Negura's "Maiastru Sfetnic" - "Maiestrit" and so on). Maybe because it's just an EP?

You can add the re-release as a separate EP and I'll accept it (because, as you said, all the songs are different). The same rule applies to 7th Nemesis and their debut album being re-recorded and released as a new album.

50 % is old material in that re-release, and the other half of it consists of new versions of those old songs. So is it really more of a "new" release than an "old" release. I got nothing against adding it differently, just solving this situation for the future, you know : P

Oh, I misinterpreted what he said. No, if the album itself isn't a complete re-recording (like Stormblast) then adding the re-release info in the addition info section is more than enough, no need to add it as a separate release. Thanks for clarifying.

What do the re-recordings sound like? Why on Earth would you ever need to redo one of the best EP's known to Mon?

Horribly overrated band although Lee Secret is enjoyable but nothing more than that.

It isn't released for another month but I'd like to check it out. I wasn't overly impressed by the original EP.

I actually prefer the re-recordings. A cleaner and trimmer production/arrangements do justice to the songs, which were already beautiful.
Guess I should raise my rating from 8 to 9, then.

I just got the digibook and that alone is enough reason to buy it imo... It's a really cute digibook with the lyrics, translations and 3-4 pages written by Niege about the band and its concept (cheesy material, I know but at least it seems more detalied that what you find online) and about the creation of the EP. The artwork is pretty sweet too.

I like more the re-recorded version than the original. The production on the original was so terrible I couldn't stand it.

I understand that its gaze but the submissiveness in this is a bit too much. Second song is a bit better than the first. Good that it spurred other bands to create better stuff in this genre though.
