Black Galaxy - Wrath Of The Void

Sludgy Hard Rock
Jul 29, 2019
These Canadians mix upbeat Hard Rock with some Doom and StonerSludge riffs and vocals very reminiscent of Alice In Chains to smash out a seven track, sub 30 minute party for your earhole. Hunt the Spacequeen on BandCamp.

Hankering for a hunk of stoner rawk? Cravings a dose of riffs? Call Mr Plow, that's their name. That name again is Mr Plow.

Black Earth is a great opening salvo for what promises to be an awesome last 100 days of 2017 for \m/. An unrelentingly heavy assault that is a fine tuning of their approach which sounds like an organic Streetcleaner. Process Of Godflesh anyone?

Loss - Horizonless

Funeral Doom
Aug 07, 2017
Those who know me know I have had a perfectly wretched July. This was the perfect soundtrack for it. Check it out when you have a miserable day/week/month going on and spread the feel bads.

Time Lurker - Time Lurker

post-black
Jun 16, 2017
Time waits for no man, but Time Lurker have waited a long timing waiting on this man to mash out a review. Désolé. Their s/t debut is 7 tracks of post-infused black metal with some great tremolo riffing, harmonies offset against posty-moments, tikatikatika drums and howling into the vortex vocals buried a bit in the mix to make everything sound even better.

Altar Of Betelgeuze - Among The Ruins

Grungy Stoner Doom
Feb 22, 2017
I rather enjoyed Darkness Sustains The Silence's excellent mixing of doom, trad, death and stoner riffs to create an album that I continue to enjoy years later. Now they're back, tossing a fistful of grunge into the mix. Among The Ruins has a lot of the swell things I enjoyed so much topped off with an Alice In Chains vibe. Maybe a little less harsh, but (insert Alice In Betelgeuze joke here)'s Among The Ruins is a very enjoyable album.

Kassad - Faces Turn Away

Black Metal
Feb 13, 2017
Raging torrent of black metal vaguely in the vein of Darkspace. Five unrelenting tracks combining breakneck pace, tragic harmonies, shrieked but buried vocals before the bottom drops out into more ambient territory. Maybe the aftermath of being sucked through the black hole? Another "One time at Bandcamp..." find.

Various Artists - 5 Years Of Doom And Dark Sounds

Various Artists, various genres
Nov 28, 2016
A great comp, mixing in some of my fave Discos Macarras artists (Tort, Santo Rostro), newer faves (Rosy Finch) and new tunes (well, to me) altogether. Love what DM has been putting out and this is a great starting point to check out their stable.

Wowzerz! It is as if Church Of Misery distilled mid-90s Cathedral down to my favorite bits, only with better vocals, to lay down one swell album.

Abske Fides - O Sol Fulmina A Terra

Funeral Doom / Death Doom
Oct 19, 2016
It seems this bundle of Brazilian funeral/death-doom joy, released 6/6/16, flew under a lot of radars. O Sol is a miasma of negativity from the concrete jungle of Sao Paolo, which has a lot more going on to keep it more interesting than the atypical glacial-beat, four minutes to complete a riff funeral doom. Give it a listen now and toss me an "obrigado" later.

Spaceking - The Piper At The Gates Of Stone

instrumental psychedelic stoner post
Sep 29, 2016
Spaceking's Piper At The Gates Of Stoned is instrumental stoner-post with psychedelic/trippy effects tossed in for fun. Spaceking are possibly best enjoyed with Spacegrass.

Wo Fat - Midnight Cometh

stonerdoomsludge
Aug 21, 2016
Discussing this with Pippin, he described as "If Orange Goblin and Tool had a psychedelic doom baby". What he said. bandcamp cometh

Ewïg Frost - No Dice

punk speedmetal
Jul 18, 2016
Hooray! loved the "High Octane Anarchy" of Ewig Frost's EP and now they are back with another Motorhead worship punked-up speed metal Atomic Release. 13 songs, 30 minutes of ugly, gritty, rip-roaring Black Mountain Madness. Get yer smash on!

Barús - Barús

Progressive Death Metal
Jun 28, 2016
The self-titled EP by Frenchies Barús is fantastique. Four separate tracks of slightly proggy death with vision, each with their own unique feel and vibe. Listened to this more than a dozen times now over three months, each time enjoying it while hating myself for not pounding out a review saying how much I enjoy it. Thus ends my confession. Hold not my sins against the band. Check it out.

Ok, with a name like Slabdragger and an album titled Rise Of The Dawncrusher one might expect riffs. You would not be disappointed. From slow, powerful doomy riffs and clean singing to Indian-like shrieking, Slabdragger beat you about the head and neck with riffs, riffs and more riffs. Viva La Bandcamp.
