Mion's Hill - Festering Curses
Evil
Dec 13, 2012
Fenriz picked these guys as band of the week a while back. I should have listened earlier. We all should have listened.

Minority Sound - The Explorer
Cyber metal
Dec 12, 2012
So you really digged Neurotech's debut album Antagonist, but don't like the way they are going now? Weep no more, Minority Sound are here for the rescue!
(what's the deal with all those Eastern Europeans being awesome at cyber metal anyway?)

Cloak Of Altering - Ancient Paths Through Timeless Voids
Avantgarde Black Metal
Dec 11, 2012
- Hey man! What's up?
- Oh nothing... Mories released yet another piece of extreme art that challenges the foundations of black metal and extreme music in general. Throwing industrial, ambient, noise, dissonance, electronic touches and who knows what into the equation to get a result that can only be achieved by a mad man. Surprisingly mellow and melodic at some points though. But still, this is... You know, the usual magnificence.
- As always, meh.

Ævangelist - De Masticatione Mortuorum In Tumulis
Haunted Blackened Death Metal
Dec 11, 2012
Haunted seems to be an appropriate way to describe this. Utterly dense, unnerving and swirling death metal the likes of which you probably have never heard. (Kudos to Alex Lemon for this great find).

The Algorithm - Polymorphic Code
Electronic Djent-step?
Nov 28, 2012
Can't really describe this any better than Rémi Gallego himself so I'll just quote him on this...
"Imagine a mash up of electronica driven breakdowns, djent-y guitars, gut wrenching dub-step wobs and glitchy melodies all working together to fluidly pummel your head into the future."

Nov 25, 2012
An inspired live performance by one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time. A mandatory listen for anyone who claims to know anything about metal, or where metal comes from.
You don't neet to love it, but you need to know it.

Aluk Todolo - Occult Rock
Psychedelic Noise Rock/Krautrock/Drone
Nov 22, 2012
Not strictly metal anymore. if they ever really were; their krautish, noisy interpretation of black metal seems to have been put on hold for the time being (aside from the first track; a black metal number), but this is arguably album of the year nonetheless. If you have any love of Skullflower's early droning, noise rock days and krautrock's trippy psychedelia then this should be right up your gasse.

For me this is the best band of the "djent movement". I love the vocals, the riffing, the atmosphere and especially the drumming is a big plus for me. Their drummer is insane how he goes back and forth between blinding speed fills and blasting to slower rhythmic grooving following the guitar and then right back into a blisteringly fast blast and roll.
Panzerballett - Tank Goodness
Jazz/Metal Fusion
Nov 15, 2012

Flourishing - Intersubjectivity
Mind-Melting Grimy Death Metal With A Post-Hardcore Lick
Nov 15, 2012
Flourishing return to us once again with yet another exceptional and unique take on the death metal sound. Unapologetically caustic and acidic, Intersubjectivity is a meat grinder of angular riffs, scorched earthen rasps, dirty bass and muddy, incomprehensible drums all buried and distorted by a crusty, dense production. A twisted yet frighteningly calculated gem of the most dissonant nature.
After Oblivion - Stamina
Technical Thrash/Death Metal
Nov 13, 2012
Are you a diehard Death fan? Have you found yourself wishing "Evil Chuck D" had never died so there were more albums after TSoP? Have you maybe thought to yourself it would be kinda nice if Death could find a "replacement" for Mr. Schuldiner (both vocally and instrumentally)? Well if so, then this is probably going to be your new favorite album in the last decade... \m/

Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Progressive metalcore
Nov 11, 2012
Between The Buried And Me is a foreign entity. Their music is out of this world and these aliens keep up the good form with The Parallax II: Future Sequence. They really know how to make challenging prog, and what's better than a concept album? Expect the usual head-spinning craziness, mind-blowing sequences and crushing discharges. A truly unique voyage.
Noisear - Turbulent Resurgence
Grind
Nov 07, 2012
It's a lot like what I imagine "fighting" a UFC featherweight would be like. You'll get hit about 20 times before your mind can register the fact that you're being hit at all.
