Vomitory - To Enter Studio In December

Swedish brutal death metallers, Vomitory will enter Leon Music Studios outside Karlstad, Sweden on December 3 to begin recording their sixth album. The band's statement goes as follows:

"This time we'll work with producer Rikard Löfgren, who is the founder/owner of Leon Music," the band said in a statement. "Rikard Löfgren is still a pretty unfamiliar name within the death metal scene. He mostly works with more commercial music but he is a great producer and has his roots in metal. We know the guy since ages and we have great confidence in him."
It's going to feel strange to do a new Vomitory album not working with our sidekick Henrik Larsson, but we feel it's time to try something new. Since Vomitory isn't exactly an experimental band, we feel that working in a new studio with a new producer is a good way of renewing the band. We have two weeks for the recording and one week of mix and mastering."

The as-yet-untitled CD is scheduled for release at the end of April 2007 through Metal Blade Records.

Symphony X - Another Bad Studio Update

Well here it goes as it is said I didn't change a thing:

'It seems that this is doomed to be the 'Murphy's law' cd, where anything that could go wrong, will/has gone wrong. Due to technical problems, first with the studio computers, and then with the failure and subsequent replacement/installation of somewhat-hard-to-find parts in MJR's amps, the band's about 2 weeks behind where they'd hoped to be progress-wise at this point. This has thrown off the projected date for getting the cd out and mixed, so they've had to push back the date for that by about a month in accordance with what dates were available to them.

Currently MJR is getting his guitar parts finished, & after that Mike LePond will finish up his bass parts, and then Russ will enter the studio to work on recording the vocals. Mike asked me to extend the band's appreciation to the fans for their patience, & at this point, is anticipating a release date after the new year; I have no doubt that it will be well worth the wait.'

Thunderstone - Working On New Album, Studio Update

Thunderstone are currently working on their fourth studio album at Sonic Pump Studios. Guitarist/producer Nino Laurenne has issued the following update:

"Well, here we are: starting the sessions for Thunderstone's fourth album. And like before, at this point there's no pressure at all, so the atmosphere and the feeling overall is almost bursting through the roof, which is, btw four meters high in the new Sonic Pump Studios! One thing that makes me very enthusiastic to start the recordings is that I've been working over a year in my new studio with several other bands and I know that the place is perfect for music production.

So everything seems to be just perfect...so far :-)

Saturday morning we started to build up the mics around Mirka's drum kit. This time I wanted to hire a professional engineer to record the drums because I wanted to concentrate 110% on producing. And the perfect guy for this job was Jesse Vainio, who actually is more known for making albums with gold/platinum selling mainstream artists in Finland. Since Mirka was working at his day job until 3pm, we started to set up the sounds etc etc. It took around three hours and the whole kit was miked and the overall sound was ok. And of course the final tuning had to happen with Mirka, since he hits like 1000 times harder than me:-))

Also one major thing that we did differently this time is that we used a 16 track 2 inch analog tape recorder. There IS something magical with the analog sound.

Mainly the whole drum session went pretty easily and we were having a great time. The drum sound is probably the best I've ever recorded so far, so I'm really happy and anxious to start play guitars next. We recorded 11 songs + 2 cover songs that I am not going to tell what they are:-)) All I can say that the other one will be quite a surprise. Let's see what our label will say about that;-)

That's all for now. I will write again after the rhythm guitars and the bass are done."

-Nino-

Thunderstone will play ProgPower in Atlanta, GA on September 16th.

Machine Head - Studio Update Posted

Machine Head guitarist Robert Flynn has posted the following studio update on the band's official website:

"WOO - HOO!! We have guitar tone!!! And I'm not talking your average chugga-chugga metal tone, I'm talking face-peeling, ear-shredding savagery... fuck yeah!!! Hetfield eat your heart out! Woo-hoo! Can't wait to get tracking on some tunes tomorrow.

This last week we did some Duce and Demmel scratch tracks for reference when Adam and I sing... I threw on some vocals, some of which may or may not be keepers... had Adam come in for vocals and harmonies and MAN, he is sounding KILLER, we may have some keepers even though they were just for practice. We took a couple days off for the holiday too, drank a bunch'a beers, it was nice, cleared the head".

Also, Machine Head have posted some photos of them during the recording sessions in Sharkbite studios. Click here to view them. The band has also said that they will be posting video footage of themselves in the studio soon.

Shadows Fall - Enter Studio

Shadows Fall entered the studio in late-August to begin pre-production for their new album, and Atlantic Records debut. Here's an update from drummer Jason Bittner :

"Well everyone, as of 2 weeks ago we started pre-production for our new album with our producer Nick Raskulinecz. He flew out from LA on a Monday evening, and by Tuesday afternoon we were in our rehearsal room slowly dissecting all of the material that we currently have written for our Atlantic debut.

First off, I think everyone was impressed...Nick was pretty stoked with our material and ambitions, and the band was extremely excited and impressed by Nick's ideas, let alone his never-ending enthusiasm! We put a solid 6 hours in the 1st day just jamming and revamping. Later on that night brought a well-deserved evening at the bar discussing what we would do once we got in the studio.

Day 2 brought the seeds for 2 more new songs, as well as a day of actually demoing the tunes for the first time in their new forms. At this point everyone was shot, so we all decided to be smart, stay in and get some rest.

Day 3 brought another new song to the table...Matt, Jon, and Paul had a wedding to go to so we ended early, I went home to NY and Brian and Nick worked on vox for the rest of the day.

The last day, I was informed that it was going to be a vocal day only, so I stayed home to rest my arm which at this point was hamburger (Damn tendonitis!!)!! At the end of the day, Brian had a good 7 tunes demoed out vocally with some great new ideas, and Nick got on a flight back to LA.

All in all, we had a great 1st run. We can't stop talking about how much we think Nick is helping to add some more dimension to this band that we never thought existed, but don't start worrying yet, we're not cutting our hair and selling out, this record is still going to be heavy as hell!"

Symphony X - Studio Update

Progressive metal outfit, Symphony X is continuing work on 'Paradise Lost', set to be released before the end of the year. The following statement has been posted via the group's website:

"It would appear that one of the early drafts of the cd cover has been leaked to at least one website; the band hasn't had a chance to okay any final artwork, so what you see floating around out there is NOT the final cd cover art.

Jason is done recording his parts, and the rhythm tracks and other guitar parts should be done by next week. The band's aiming to have the music ready for mixing by mid September; MJR says that things are moving right along, and kept our conversation short so that he could get back to it.

More news when there's more to share..."

In other news, Symphony X was obliged to cancel many European festival appearances suit of their bassist's health.
