Rhapsody Of Fire - News From The Band

The following update was posted on the official website of Rhapsody Of Fire a few days ago:

"First of all thank you for all the patience you had in these last times despite the lack of news regarding the band. We wanted to inform you that we are in the middle of a hard legal fight with MCM and his main representative Mr. Joey De Maio (Manowar). That's the reason why in the last months we had to keep all strictly confidential and could not release any official declaration that could obviously be used against us from the opposite side. And that's also the reason why we were constricted to stop completely our band's activity. Frankly we are not able to imagine if all this can end in a very close future but we want to assure you that we are ready to fight with all the strength of body and soul in order to protect yours and our beloved band. Yes, aside from these bad events we ask you to not lose your faith in us. As soon as this sad situation will be solved we'll be ready for a great and mighty come back. A new album, a real masterpiece of speed/epic metal, is already composed and ready to be recorded and after its release an immense worldwide tour will finally follow for yours and our extreme satisfaction."

Alice Cooper - To Release New Concept Album

Official press release:

"There are only a handful of rock artists that have proven to be as enduring and influential as Alice Cooper has over the years. Name just about any hard rock artist, and they've probably borrowed a thing or two from Cooper. On his latest studio recording, "Along Came A Spider" (issued via SPV Records on July 29th), Alice has returned with a concept album with a sinister streak.

"A dark and menacing album for dark and menacing times" is perhaps the most fitting description for Alice's 25th studio album. A chilling conceptual thread runs through the songs, which are told through the voice of a serial killer named Spider - one that Alice describes as "an arachnophobic psychopath" (in the song "Catch Me If You Can"). Alice, the master storyteller, weaves a web of danger, intrigue and death that rivals his best work.

Co-produced by Danny Saber, Greg Hampton and Alice himself, "Along Came A Spider" manages to marry both vintage and modern day Alice. As theatrical as ever, the album is a sonic combination of familiar Alice musical elements from albums as diverse as "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Brutal Planet," with the storytelling of "Welcome To My Nightmare," capturing the historic dark side of Alice in peak form, an instantly recognizable presence that will be welcomed by his fans. Joining Alice on the album are members of his touring band - longtime Alice drummer Eric Singer, bassist Chuck Garric, and guitarists Keri Kelli and Jason Hook, with additional contributions from others, including Saber, Hampton, and renowned backing vocalist Bernard Fowler. Slash also lends some guitar style to "Vengeance Is Mine."

Saber and Hampton co-wrote several of the album's songs with Alice, while others were collaborations with Alice's band members. Danny Saber, best known for his role as member and producer of Black Grape, has also worked with many other artists, including the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, and David Bowie, while Greg Hampton's been working on a new album project teaming up Buckethead and Bootsy Collins.

Who else but Alice Cooper, with "Along Came A Spider," would create a "love story" about a serial killer named Spider? His trademark is wrapping his victims in silk, and his victims are specifically chosen to feed his hunger to kill. But, upon meeting his (possibly) last victim, he falls in love with her and cannot kill to complete his plan. That could be his demise.

Vader - Part Ways With Bassist

Vader has issued the following update:

"After 5 years of working with Vader, our bassist Novy (true name Marcin Nowak) decided to part ways with the band! He made his decision right after recently finished European tour. We would like to thank him for all those years of successful cooperation and just a great work he did for the band within the time. The band's members wish him all the best for the future!... Unfortunately, Marcin's decision of leaving the band was made not only after the finished tour in Europe, but also just before the upcoming (and very important) US tour Summer Slaughter Tour 2008 (when we appear alongside Black Dalhia Murder, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy and other bands). This is a very hard situation for the band but don't worry- we have already found a replacement - the session bassist for this tour will be Martin (ex- Decapitated). We are convinced that together with him VADER will be a killer! The session bass player for the shows planned for the rest of 2008 will be announced after the US tour. On August 3 Vader will appear on Polish Woodstock Festival. On August 30 the band will play a special anniversary show in Warsaw. In October panzerdivision under command of Peter will hit the road again, playing a tour through across Scandinavia and the Baltic States. (Mariusz Kmiołek - Massive Music Management)."

Power Quest - Announce New Guitarist

Power metallers Power Quest have announced that former Cellador and current Coldera guitarist Bill Hudson had been recruited into the Power Quest ranks and is set to form an incredible twin guitar partnership with Andrea Martongelli.

Keyboardist Steve Williams comments:
"I'm absolutely ecstatic with this news! I've been good friends with Bill for a couple of years now and we have often talked about working together in some shape or form and now we have the perfect opportunity to do just that. As well as being a fantastic guitarist, Bill is also a great songwriter too which means this is going to benefit the band on a number of levels. Welcome aboard brother!"

Bill Hudson adds:
"We've always talked about doing something together at some point, but the closest we've got to it was my guest solo (in the song The Vigil) on the new record. When I left Cellador, I had no idea I would end up being in Power Quest. So I'm really excited about it, as it's a great band, my style will fit right in and they have one of the best guitarists in current metal, Andrea Martongelli. It'll be a pleasure to be the other 50% of this killer guitar duo! I look forward to meeting the fans during the Master of Illusion tour!"

The Angelic Process - K. Angylus Passed Away

From the blog of Profound Lore Records:

"Just got word a few days ago that The Angelic Process mastermind K. Angylus passed away around the end of April (pretty much exactly a year after the creation/release of the monumental "Weighing Souls With Sand" album). Very sad (and shocking) news indeed that took us off guard, especially considering the visionary and amazing musician this man was and how he conjured up one of the greatest triumphs in the Profound Lore catalog; namely "Weighing Souls With Sand". Cause of death is of course speculative, so we won't get into any of this, but nonetheless we of course appreciated the man Kris was; as a musical perfectionist, he was also one of the most humble and sincere persons we have had the pleasure to deal with. Condolences to those close to him... Godspeed..."

Alestorm - Part Ways With Drummer

Guitarist Gavin Harper has issued the following statement on the band's myspace page:

I'm very sad to report that Wilson has informed us last night that he is unable to continue in Alestorm due to a heavy touring schedule and a career that unfortunately leaves little room for time off.

The parting has been on excellent terms and there is no bad blood whatsoever, I, and all of Alestorm/Napalm Records wish Wilson the best of luck in his chosen path and we understand his decision completely.

We have got an excellent drummer filling Wilson's big shoes and has already proven himself as the perfect choice for the new Alestorm Drummer.

Details will be posted in the coming days after meetings have taken place with both band and record label on Monday in London.

I hope everyone joins me in our support both Wilson and our new drummer!

Cryptopsy - New Video Online

Centuria Media press release:

"The unstoppable Montreal killing machine, Cryptopsy, are currently wrapping up a very successful European tour that will immediately lead them into this year's crushing Summer Slaughter North American touring package.

This trek marks their first stateside run in support of their career defining release, "The Unspoken King", which could quite possibly also be their most brutal, yet dynamic offering. The much anticipated new effort is set for a June 24th release.

Cryptopsy recently shot a new video with acclaimed director David Brodsky (GWAR, Soilent Green) for the album's vicious opening cut "Worship Your Demons." The clip captures the band's unrelenting, frenetic stage energy and it is sure to catch your attention. It made its exclusive, online debut through the Headbangers Ball Blog today and premieres on MTV2 this Sat. night. Click here to check it out now."

Drummer Flo Mounier comments:

"It is with pleasure that we announce the new Cryptopsy video, shot and directed by David Brodsky and the Mygoodeye team (GWAR, Soilent Green). The video is for the song "Worship Your Demons" off of the new album, "The Unspoken King". David and his crew found an awesome, dilapidated location in upstate NYC for this shoot and we actually had to build a floor since there wasn't one there when we arrived. This is a straight up, brutal and in-your-face, punishing live performance clip that pulls no punches. It's basically two minutes of unabashed aggression and we hope you all like it.
We had a lot of fun doing this and we would like to thank David and his crew for a fantastic job, and a most friendly environment. Professionalism is always appreciated in this business. Check it out!"
