Mortiis - Begins Work On Follow Up To 'The Grudge'

Notodden,Norway - Mortiis has begun writing for a planned 2006 follow -up to 'The Grudge'

Mortiis has been collaborating with well-known producer Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory, Delerium, Frontline Assembly, Paradise Lost) and is currently demoing material.

"On the new songs, we are focusing more on what I think got a bit lost last time, which is songwriting and continuity," said Mortiis. "Last time I was trying to make a really angry and abusive record, and I wanted to do everything at the same time because I wanted all this noisy stuff to happen. The distorted noise, electronics, and samples are still there, but these songs are more focused and have a more coherent interaction between the programmed and the organic. They are definitely a lot more organic, and I am putting a lot of weight on guitars this time."

Some of the working song titles include: "The Ugly Truth", "Doppelganger", "Hard to Believe", "Zeitgeist", "Scolding the Burnt" and "Great Deceiver".

In other news, guitarist Åge Troite has replaced Åsmund Sveinunggard for live duties with Mortiis. European and North American dates are being worked on at this time.

Cephalic Carnage - Bassist Jawsh Mullen Quits

Bassist Jawsh Mullen has announced his departure from Denver, Colorado's Cephalic Carnage. Mullen's official statement on the matter reads as follows:

"I got some bad news for you, especially the ladies, I'm out again! That's right, I have decided to retire from the road. This has not been an easy decision to make, trust me, however, where I want to be in 10 years requires sacrifice. I'm gonna go back to school! But right now I have to work and save to get there. I will miss ALL of you out there, especially the friends that put us up, and put up with us over the years. I love all of you. To all of the friends in all the bands we've toured with, Thank you!! Thank you for the drunken, smoked out stories I have to tell for the rest of my humble like!! The memories! I've had a great time, but now I have to go and do some other shit, I have no attention span.

"I am staying active in music, however. I work at a rock club called the Hi-Dive, play in Munimula, Stuntcok, and Carniceria, so that's keeping me busy. Eventually I want to work for Dave Otero, (If you don't know who he is, you will very soon.) but I gotta work for it.

"For those looking for juicy gossip regarding this lifestyle change, sorry, there is none. We are all grownups. It sucks for all of us, but it's unavoidable, so we accept it. We are all friends, and they understand what I have to do. Those guys took me around the world, I could never have hate for them. I love them. I loved this band for years before I joined, if they don't sell out, I will love them for all time!

"If you live in Denver, or find yourself visiting Denver, come into the Hi-Dive, I will buy you a shot of whiskey and we will go over stories and laugh!"

Jawsh will be playing his final show with Cephalic Carnage on February 24 in Denver at the 3 Kings Tavern. In the meantime, the band are currently looking for a new bass player. Interested parties can contact the group at info@cephaliccarnage.net .

HIM - Ville Valo Arrested For Threatening Neighbor

According to the Finnish tabloid newspaper Iltalehti, HIM. frontman Ville Valo was taken into custody by the Finnish police over the weekend for allegedly threatening to kill his neighbor and resisting arrest.

At approximately 2:30 in the morning Monday morning (Feb. 6), Valo allegedly became belligerent and violent while spending time at his apartment building, which is located in the Eira district of Helsinki. For reasons that are unclear, Ville is said to have thrown a flower pot at his neighbor's door, after which he was confronted by his neighbor and a brawl ensued. The police were called by the neighbor's wife and two officers came to the scene but were unable to calm Valo down, who reportedly had to be restrained with handcuffs.

Valo, 29, spent the night in police custody and reportedly admitted threatening the neighbor but failed to provide a clear motive for his actions.

No injuries were reported in the incident, although the neighbor's door did suffer some minor damage.

According to Iltalehti, Valo was involved in previous disturbances within the same housing organization.

The neighbors refused to comment the issue, according to the report.

Enslaved - Update On The New Album

Enslaved's forthcoming album "Ruun" is almost ready. The album that is produced by the band itself is being mixed in the Propeller Studio (Oslo) and then it will be mastered just after that.

The members of Enslaved expressed their thoughts about the album:

Ivar Bjørnson (guitar): "Me and Grutle has worked out a concept I feel is related to both the "old" Enslaved sphere and our new universe; tradition and heresy, logic and metaphysics - side by side. The material is strong willed and seems to live a life of its own; it is out of our hands at this point. It is my hope and belief that old and new listeners will enjoy the album. I know we will. We are very grateful for working with Johnny Skalleberg during recording, Mike Hartung in the mix and for being backed and followed up by Roffe and Tabu Recordings every step of the way."

Herbrand Larsen (keyboard & vocal): "'Ruun' is more extreme in all aspects; sound wise, the riffs, the melodies, harmonies and disharmonies. 'Runn' is all that and more!"

Grutle Kjellson (vocal & bass): "'Ruun' contains the most successful and efficient lyrics seen in Enslaved ever. The concept is more developing and interesting. We spent a lot time pre producing vocal arrangement, which has resulted in a perfect integration with the sound landscape. Every instrument and voice has founds its own orbit within the sound. However, should you not be into newer Enslaved, feel free to put "Frost" once again."

Arve Isdal (lead guitar): "This is by far the best Enslaved record to date. The production is more powerful than before. We have put more effort into the recording sessions, and this shows. Some new instruments and techniques have been used, which gives this record a more colorful sound."

Cato Bekkevold (drums): "The recording was so smooth, and I must say thanks to Johnny for his work! And this time I also did some pre-prod in Portugal with my old pal from Re:aktor, NexionD which was very helpful for all of us.
Ivar's gift as a songwriter never stops surprising me, and it's a privilege to play in such a great band. Musically, we don't break rules, just invent new ones. We didn't have to rush anything during any process, so I'm confident about this one!"

Also the band, later on February, is going to make two videos for their upcoming album "Ruun".

Siebenbürgen - Disbanded

Siebenbürgen has called it quits. Marcus Ehlin, frontman of the Swedish heavy/black metal band, posted the following at the official website:

"I am hereby sad to inform you all that Siebenbürgen is no more.

On the 1st of February 2006 we had a band meeting and came to the conclusion that we have to bury Siebenbürgen. After 12 years we sadly don't have the energy and inspiration to take the band any further and it would be wrong to us and to our fans to continue without the passion that Siebenbürgen deserve.

During these years we have struggled and bled to keep Siebenbürgen alive and well, we have published five albums that we are very proud of, we got to see the world and we met a lot of great people in the process, and our fans fucking rule! But now it is over and we will lay Siebenbürgen to rest. It has been a great experience that we would not trade for anything in the world.

We would like to thank Ed and Karen of No Cross Management, Sabine at IDB booking, Eva and the staff at Napalmn Records and all the bands we have toured with during the years, and last but not least, all of our devoted fans that believed in us and kept us going through all this time.

Thanks for everything and may the gods of metal be with you!

- Marcus Ehlin and Siebenbürgen - "

I have nothing bad to say about Tim, Rob, Stu and Troy. They are truly wonderful people and some of my best friends. We've been through some tremendous experiences, and I can't thank them enough for the amazing times we've had and the incredible opportunities that they've given me.
