Less structured and riff based than the previous album, and more of a return to the "pure drone" sound of the band's earlier material. Still immediately recognizable as the DBR sound though, and a lovely addition to their discography. One of (if not) my favorite Finnish bands at the moment, and I'm very happy that they exist

Finland could be India's new occult capital through the transcendatal practices of DBR.

I think Sunn O))) was a bad first introduction to drone music, as I did and most definitely still do find their music an unbearably monotonous and dragging slog, as were a couple of other similar bands such as Earth and more recent This Will Destroy You. But in between stuff like the Queller album from Nadja from a couple of years ago and these last two albums from DBR, I'm slowly starting to build up some appreciation for some of the more, I don't know, conventionally-sounding, or less drone-y, drone acts. I like the ominous yet almost meditative feel of this thing, and it works well as background music but also has just enough to latch onto even when paying it some attention.

I think the thing that's hard for some people getting into drone is figuring out whether or not they prefer drone doom or pure drone. The former is more riff based and, as the name suggests, has a bit of a doom influence to it, so you're not just floating around in empty space amidst huge walls of feedback and delay. However, drone techniques in music are far older than metal as a genre is, and there are also bands out there that play in more of that structureless, "pure drone" style that may or may not have any metal influences to it at all. Those are the bands that are less compromising and generally harder to get into. DBR are a bit of both I've noticed, they can be very riff based at times, but also very meditative and formless as well.... this album seems to be a bit of both.

Thats probably the reason why I think Dakhmandal is a good album while I have a hard time getting in to this one.

Yeah, there is a bit of that split there between drone fans, as to whether or not you're into the genre only if it's combined with doom (so, things like Sunn O))), some DBR, Moss, etc.), or if you can tolerate it in its pure form when its not as well (Bong, Nadja, etc). I like both sides of the coin a lot, I think they can each be equally effective
