This Godflesh review is coming from a strange place. Ordinarily their music is simultaneously numbing and punishing. However, after a day of staring at spreadsheets, having the dentist go medieval on my mouth with a harpoon and power drill, and ineptly fumbling my way through an hour of the Dead Space remake, pressing play on Purge and letting the nostalgic mechanized assault of Godflesh wash over me, the album filled me with such happy thoughts I might as well have been playing Katrina And The Waves “Walking On Sunshine (Don’t It Feel Good?)”. Or at least the Slayer mash-up, ”Chemical Warfare (Don’t It Feel Good?)”.

I would be excited for this if I listened to anything past Pure.

Somehow I expected more from this release, they're the masters of the industrial sound, but sound aside, this seems to be lacking those memorable moments. It seems to me like they've tried to go back as far as possible to their roots, and it feels like a watered down Streetcleaner. Maybe I've been missing something?

Liked this a lot at first then liked it less with each listen. Don’t think this is one I’ll revisit much unfortunately.

Solid release.

I can't make up my mind in how begrudgingly they shifted the polarity from "Lazarus"/"Permission" to "Mythology Of Self" in a whisk to an Acid Bath-closer "You're the Judge...".

I've not personally witness such extreme change of tempos(within songs) in Godflesh ever before.

Wow, imagine not listening to any Godflesh past Pure. Yeah, their early stuff is the best and to each their own, but they've certainly released some other, pretty enjoyable stuff since then.

I did not quite care for A World Lit Only By Fire, but I'd say JKB more or less got the train back on track with Post Self. This sorta capitalizes on that now. Fairly decent 7.5 - 8 industrial. Land Lord and that last track are killer.

I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.
