I already have quite a few albums to look forward to in 2016, so I figured we'd go ahead and get this thread started. The two so far are the upcoming Ctheilist and Lycus albums. Ctheilist embody all that is great with strange Lovecraftian death metal, while Lycus are an incredibly solid funeral doom outfit.

He called it an "Instrumental preview of track two" on his Facebook. You'd think it would be clearer on the Bandcamp page though.

Yeah, I guessed it would be something of the sort.
Still, would be funny if they only included the vocals if you bought the album. Don't remember which band it was that had their album streaming on Youtube but with a message from one of the band members every five or so minutes asking to buy the album. Whoever they were, they were a bunch of cunts.

Sounds good though, not tooooo familiar with Ævangelist, but they're one of those bands I should give a full discography playthrough some time.

that's pretty unscrupulous. That's not far off video game DLC or preorder content sort of thing, only worse and more blackmail-y by the sounds of it.

As for Ævangelist, I wouldn't recommend the entire discog, would be a pretty big waste of your time. 'De Masticatione Mortuorum In Tumulis' and the the 'Nightmare Flesh Offering' split are defo worth your time though.

Indeed, pretty sure I downloaded it that same day and decided to never ever buy any of their albums for that reason alone, even if I thought it was the best thing ever. Just to prove to them such strategies are bullshit. Whoever they were. Think it was Feared actually, but I could be wrong.

two shoegazy black metal bands that are likely to have the same listeners would be super lame though

Possibly just nudged out Death Fetishist as frontrunner for this year. 84 minutes of superbly recorded drone, doom, dark ambient and many distinctively Barn Owl-ish vibes too, so quite chilled, in a creepy sort of way.

This sounds amazing. Their previous one was also a great Aluk Todolo-ian number, but this one seems to be going in a different direction, and sounds equally good, if not better. Love the vocals. Looking forward to this one a lot. Already played this track half a dozen times.

Vicious, even brutal black metal, mixed with space ambient, and a variety of creepy components. Alternates between ambient and metal quite a bit which might annoy some listeners but it makes for good mini breaks from the onslaught. The black metal tracks are still interesting though despite their aggressiveness, and shake it up with eerie melodies, chanting, subtle synths, dissonances and lots of other bits. I usually don't like hyper aggressive bm but this totally works. Damn fucking good to my ears, and quite a journey.

^ tried half of the album more or less, and still don't find it worth than 6 tbh. BM parts are soulless, and give the same feeling I get when listening to plastic tech/ brutal death tbh. could be a nice little record if it didn't have any metal in it.

Not sure how anyone could find it soulless tbh, even if they didn't like it. Almost every song gives way to an interesting moment at some point. The second song for example, after 3 or 4 minutes gets incredibly atmospheric, the band name track the same, and the second to last song, sounds almost like something from a Resident Evil game when the aggression breaks away. Amazing stuff; so many melodic, euphoric or melancholic passages throughout. My only complaint would be lack of drum variation.
