Written by F3ynman on 07.11.2021 at 22:53 So, since now the new search function for albums includes a flag based on the band's home country, I thought maybe this suggestion I had a while ago could be implemented when filtering on the "Albums" page

Dammit, I want to completely rewrite the releases section anyway. Many people have provided excellent suggestions over the years. But I don't want to add to the old static table we have because both front- and back end suck. So if you want to help, feel free to create a thread collecting a feature list for that section so I have a place to look at when starting that project.

Would it be possible to get a notification when an album on your wishlist releases? It's great that we get notified when a band we follow announces an album, but a release day notification would be very helpful.

Written by mde017 on 15.04.2024 at 12:19 That's on the list, but more complicated to build. I had put work on the new releases pages off because because I couldn't make the time to fully re-do it. Consider the current version of it a temporary solution.

Wouldn't it be better if bands with same names BOTH had their country in the name ? Just realized that I had added the wrong Bewitched to a festival page. I would say it would be easier to spot errors this way. On a similar matter, most Covenant shows added until recently in the database (especially visible in goth festivals) do not relate to the metal Covenant, but the electronic/EBM band. Btw, fantastic work on improving the website lately, I feel like everyday there's a new feature, and I'm loving everyone of them !

26.06.2024 - 00:16 Written by tibosax on 25.06.2024 at 22:13 You mean as in having stuff like "(GER)" behind the name? I guess I would prefer if that wasn't necessary at all. The events edit forms will sooner or later receive the taginput widget for bands. Only reason that hasn't happened yet (apart from my time, lately) is that bands are handled very crudely for events and I'll have to do some backend work to go along with the frontend change. But once that's done, you'll have auto-completion like in the search bar with band images, country flags, and genres. That would fix your issues, right?

26.06.2024 - 11:42 Written by corrupt on 26.06.2024 at 00:16 Yes, exactly. Written by corrupt on 26.06.2024 at 00:16 Yes, it would. With the auto-completion showing the two bands with the same name, it would make people check what actual band is playing. As a quick temporary bandaid, we could also have the list of bands with same names in the "Notes on adding events" just as a reminder. Though I don't know how long that list is, maybe it's not super practical.

Not sure if this is suggested yet and I’m a bit too lazy to scroll back through 20 pages, but it would be cool if we could make lists with the Bandcamp embed instead of the album images. Draugen’s lists for example have the Bandcamp link under them, which is really nice but would be even cooler if you could just see each one linked in a list and you could play it right there. Would be a nice feature for the WAMTIM as well, they usually have a playlist at the bottom. Just something I thought would be cool, but have no idea how difficult of a request that is.

Written by Vellichor on 27.06.2024 at 03:13 Articles, like the WAMTINM ones, can already include Bandcamp embeds, I just choose not to because a sizeable chunk of the albums that are covered aren't on Bandcamp. But that's possible to be changed. As for lists, I agree that more Bandcamp integration would be nice.

I noticed that the "Top 100 Drone Metal Albums" list currently has a single album on it, which seems less than ideal. I feel like including Drone-Doom albums would make a lot of sense for that particular list, since bands that most people would think of when you mention drone metal (Boris, Sunn O))), etc.) are labeled as Drone-Doom. Alternatively, or additionally, eliminating the minimum rating floor of 8.0 for the genre charts, like was done for the yearly charts, would help the chart actually meet the 100 albums the title suggests.

Sometimes I come across user lists that I really like and want to reference in the future, but often times I forget about that list and only stumble upon it again later by accident. It would be cool to have some feature where you can see a linked list of all the user lists I've thumbed up or something to better keep track of what lists I've thumbed up and which I want to continuously check for listening recommendations.

It was up to 2011 or 2012 max, and then vanished. I remember I won one giveaway contest, but sadly it wasn't for T shirt. I think D.T. Metal was in-charge at that time, if I remember correctly.

Hello! One little thing coming to my mind : I have albums in my collection which are not part of the MS database, which is fine, but I'd like to be able to associate a rating to them, so they appear when I sort by rating.

10.10.2024 - 00:19 Written by Ansercanagicus on 09.10.2024 at 21:57 It won't sort correctly since it doesn't allocate based on the MS metric rating system. You can only add ratings for albums not in the MS database by including them in the additional info, which you've already done.

10.10.2024 - 07:47 Written by Cynic Metalhead on 10.10.2024 at 00:19 That's kind of my point. If there's enough space in the database to allocate for an additionnal info field for custom entries, please just allocate one more char for the rating. It doesn't need to be cross-tabled and averaged with other users, since of course it's not in the database. From my point of view it's just an entry in my collection like any other entry. Either that, or you will tell me that the ratings are displayed using a join on my collection and my album votes, and that I simply can't vote for something that is note in the database. This is more difficult to tackle.

10.10.2024 - 08:18 Written by Ansercanagicus on 10.10.2024 at 07:47 I feel putting info in "additional info" is more than warranted here. It's definitely reflective if you hover a key over it.

10.10.2024 - 13:23 Written by Cynic Metalhead on 10.10.2024 at 08:18 Which is one more action than needed. More than that, I'd like the entries to appear using a sort by rating. It's just a suggestion towards minor quality of life improvement, I'm not battling for it.

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to say so, but I noticed a problem with Pantera's album "Vulgar Display of Power." It's currently styled as "Groove metal" but this prevents it from appearing on any lists that are filtered by style. Since Groove metal is the most accurate description for it, I suggest adding "Heavy metal" to fix this issue.

Written by beau on 13.10.2024 at 05:59 The problem is rather that the proposed filters don't match the latest styles which can appear on some albums. There's no "groove metal", "brutal death", "slowcore", "pirate", "krautrock", "ambient" etc... It doesn't match the proposed categories for Metal Storm Awards either. My ideas : - Allow users to type in the style they want to filter - Extend the default list of styles - Enforce one of the default tags on all database entries Actually if I look into the "search albums" page, it seems you can already look for a special keyword with such an URL : "https://metalstorm.net/bands/albums.php?a_where=s.style&a_what=Death" Although this is what happens if I click on the keyword "Djent" (which is not it the default list) : "https://metalstorm.net/bands/albums.php?a_where=s.style&a_what=DeathcoreDeathcore</a" It seems broken and I don't see how there could be a "<" symbol in an URL, so it's either an old forgotten feature, or quite the contrary it's a work in progress By the way I don't see how one can suggest the style of music on the Edit Album page, I suppose it's the staff taking care of this once the album is added. They are sometimes false for newer entries, and I don't know a quick way to correct it.

13.10.2024 - 13:45 Written by Ansercanagicus on 13.10.2024 at 09:07 It would be nice to be able to filter that way, but that's not something we can implement any time soon. Unfortunately the site handles styles in a very crude way and stores them in completely different parts of the database. I cannot easily filter albums by styles that are attached to the album, for example, and also filter by styles inherited from the band at the same time. It's a part of the site I continuously work on but it'll be a lot of smaller changes until we reach a point where this is actually usable. Just writing that to acknowledge that I've seen the discussion. The link you posted does look like a bug, I'll look into that. Edit: I went through all links on that site and rebuilt them. If there are still issues now, it's because I didn't pay enough attention.
