Many of you (That heard Kittie before) might find it strange that a Nu-Metal, punk/garage rock band like Kittie is reviewed here on our beloved Metal Storm, but let me tell you the reason why the are here now, it's simple; Kittie is developing.
"Until the End", their third album and is flowing in a sea near Melodic but still quite brutal Death Metal (With some Nu-metal tendency).
Kittie was formed in London, Ontario (Canada) and they released their first album in 2000, entitled "Spit", it became a huge success in the states, and Kittie became one of the most famous female bands.
They followed "Spit" up one year later, when the album "Oracle" was released, and once again, the American's took Kittie to their hearts.
2004, the band has a new guitarist, Lisa Marx, and is with "Until the End" releasing their third record, and this time, the music is much more aggressive.
The band today is the sisters Lander (Morgan, Vocal, guitars & Mercedes Drums), Lisa Marx (Guitars) and Jennifer Arroyo (Bas).
Much is wanted to say that they have left the Nu-Metal scene behind them and grown into a real Metal band, but that is to twist the truth a little too much.
Sure, this is different, it's more Metal than before and it's deserve to be reviewed on MS, but it's still a long way to walk for the girls before entering the holy lands of real Metal.
But here on "Until the End" I'm starting to se bright clouds in the horizon for Kittie, because the music is straighter, more Metal. The vocals are surely closing in; Morgan can both handle the growl and the clean song (the clean almost sounds like Tanya (ex- Lullacry) in many songs), if it's her doing both, I don't know for sure.
But on the other hand, the music is still to Nu-Metallish, sure there are some riffs that really kills, but where are the solos? And is it just me or does the music sounds a bit monotonous sometimes?
But overall it's getting better, that's for sure. Because their first releases I had major problems to like, it was to punky and concentrated on the American market, but this is moving in the right direction, and I'm sure that Kittie will leave this train very soon, maybe on the next record, who knows? I really hope they will, because they have talent.
Check Out: "Until the End" is really good.
