Love And Other Disasters is the third album of the Swedes Sonic Syndicate and the second one in their new style. Many people would say, that as the title implies, this album is a total disaster and a step closer to Nu-Metal and Metalcore. Originally, after watching the music video for the song "Jack Of Diamonds", I thought the same thing... But is this really the case?
As I said, my original feelings about this album were the worst possible, but after some plays and deeper thinking, I came to the conclusion that it's actually a step forward from their previous album. If Only Inhuman was too catchy and mainstream, this is twice as much - but that's not necessarily a bad thing, for the genre lovers. This happens to be the case with me, I love the so called Gothenburg Metal scene and this album is a more modern approach of it, with keyboards, clean vocals, catchy riffs and a very clean production. I could even say this is the pop side of metal!
For most readers, the previous paragraph will probably be more than enough to hate the band, but for your information, there is quite a bunch of other people liking this music, and that's obvious if you just check the album sales of this band. Sonic Syndicate among others, is the orientation into a more mainstream and alternative sound, without losing entirely the metal thing. It's not "melodic metalcore", it's not "nu-metal" - it's the evolution of "Gothenburg Metal"!
