Actually Depressive Age is the most unheeded German band of all time. And this is their best recording - intelligently melancholic atmosphere, amazing melodies, brilliant arrangements, expressive vocals and excellent sound !
For me, this is the best jewel of 1994 (equipollent at 'Awake'). Awesome album - better than 'Wildhoney', 'In The Nightside Eclipse', 'Tales From The Thousand Lakes' ... and vastly better than 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'.
I recommend this album to all who likes intelligent progressive thrash.

I wouldn't call this album Technical thrash metal, it's a sped-up Doom metal album.

Yeah, that is not so straight forward here.
First five tracks: Where is the Thrash?
But then:
06. Subway Tree
08. We Hate Happy Ends
Pretty thrashy to me. Dont know about technical, but maybe Progressive Thrash. But Doom...? Only really tiny bits here and there, I would say.
Also 09. Friend Within, Thrash at least partly.
10. Neptune Roars: ok, here it gets a bit technical now.
12. Kotze: mostly Thrash
But I can also hear a lot of Alternative Rock influence on this album.

Have my problems with the vocals here in general.
But the songwriting is not bad.

There are a few thrash songs here and there, that's true. Alternative Rock influence I would agree with, although the general dreary feel of the album (especially the vocals) made me think Doom metal.

Agreed, style changed to Progressive Thrash and Alternative Rock.
You may hear some bits and pieces of Gothic (no Doom though), in particular on this release and the subequent Electric Scum, but I believe it's yet far too marginal to justify a general "Gothic" tag.
