Metal and not so metal albums that had huge impact on my taste as metalhead and love for "heavy" music, ordered approximately by time I first listened to them

1. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
With this album it all began, I got it for my 14th birthday and I rember it as it was yesterday, that spoken word at the begining of "The Number of the Beast" song that gave me the chills (I listened it at about 2:00 a.m. in darkness of my room), and after that I listened only for that album for a month before friend gave me the rest of discography
2. Children Of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll
After I heard their cover of "Aces High" by Iron Maiden I asked my friend if he can give me some COB albums, and the only album he got was "Hate Crew Deathroll" and already with the first song "Needled 24/7" I was blown away, and in no time I managed to collect entire discography (at that time, their last album was "Are You Dead Yet?")
3. In Flames - The Jester Race
First album I heard from them was "Reroute to Remain", but only after hearing melodic driven "The Jester Race" I started loving this band, and geting more in to melodic death metal
4. Lamb Of God - Sacrament
I fell in love with that awesome "groove" guitars, and blues inspired solos (did I mentioned thet LoG was first bigger metal band I seen live)
5. Sepultura - Arise
This was my first contact with thrash metal, I didn't really liked it at first listen but after some time it grew on me and made me go deeper in to thrash metal
6. Zyklon - Disintegrate
After listening some black metal bands like Emperor and Darkthrone I found out that Emperor's guitarist Samoth had band called Zyklon and I liked this album and it introduced me to some "more extreme" metal
7. Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
What can I say about my all time favorite metal band. One day I came to my friend and from his room I heard this awesome wall of sound with catchy mid to fast tempo and groovy riffs, blistering flashy solos faster then the speed of light, awesome pinch harmonic squeals, and energetic vocals with great high pitch screaming and angry lyrics. It was my first contact with the almighty 90's metal beast Pantera. Although their "first" (real Pantera starts with this) album Cowboys From Hell was first album I heard from them, on their "second" album Vulgar Display Of Power, Pantera truly shines, this is also one of rare albums that has no weak songs and it's a hard punch in your face from first to last moment, even on their power ballads "This Love" and "Hollow". Pantera is all about being a "man"
8. Anthrax - Among The Living
At this time, I was fascinated with thrash metal and at that time I found about the "Big Four" of thrash metal, and the first band I starded to listen was Anthrax, and the best part was their lyrics about comics, books but with a touch of humor and it was something that was new to me in metal, and I liked it (after couple of years I started to listen another three bands from the "Big Four)
9. Kreator - Enemy Of God
What can I say about this album, well this was something different in thrash metal to me. I found out that thrash can also be melodic and this album is great example of it and to this date this is my favorite Kreator album
10. Ensiferum - Ensiferum
This band was my first contact with folk metal (even though my dumb friend keept calling them gothic metal). Songs on this album were so epic to me at that time (fuck it, they still are) with all that awesome melodic guitars, epic gang-vocals and even more epic lyrics about Viking folklore. This album is simply amazing.
11. Korpiklaani - Spirit Of The Forest
Korpiklaani was my second folk metal band after Ensiferum but it was something different. Unlike Ensiferum they had "folk metal instruments" like violin, accordion, bagpipes and flute. Even lyrics were different with Korpiklaani also singing about nature and drinking (just look at song names "Mother Earth" and "Wooden Pints"). And also song "Pellonpekko" is one of most beautiful folk metal song ever :))
12. Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies
Some of my friends started listening to this new genre called metalcore, and I didn't liked it because of clean vocals, haircuts, clothing, emotional lyrics, lack of guitar solos and all that "shit". And also I thought this wasn't "real metal" and it was for posers and wannabe metalheads and this was lasting for some 2 years. But then something happened, I heard KsE cover of "Holy Diver" by Dio and I thougt "that's so awesome" the perfect clean vocals and screaming and imagine my shock when I found out that KsE is metalcore band, and something changed inside of me...
13. Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
As I was digging deeper in to metalcore genre I came upon this band and album, and I liked the combination of melody and dropped riffs, and also some pretty awesome guitar solos by Ken Susi and Buz Mcgrath, and also this album is not their best work but it has a special place in my heart
14. As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
At this point I was kind of in love with metalcore genre, and this album was best thing in metalcore I have heard, cleans were very good but best thing was Tim Lambesi's growling in this album and also it had some awesome metalcore riffs with a little touch of thrash metal (best example is song "Within Destruction") but the main track that made me a fan of this band was "The Sound Of Truth" and which I consider to be perfect metalcore song
15. Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
I really love the combination of metalcore and melodic death on this one, melodic riffs are just perfect, and I can't find weak songs on this album. I even dare to say that this is best metalcore album ever with the lack of generic breakdowns and whiny cleans. Also the lyrics are kind of dark for metalcore but at the same time encouraging. This album is a perfect blend of great lyrics and even greater music in whole metalcore.
16. Alice In Chains - Dirt
Somewhere around the end of 2008th, after 4 years of listening to metal I got kind of glutted with metal music and decided to take a little rest from metal music. At that time I again installed GTA:San Andreas on my PC and I was listening only to Radio X and one of my favorite songs was Them Bones by Alice In Chains so I decided to take listen to some other stuff and oh man that was something. This whole album is dark, gloomy and dirty just as the name of album suggests. I may say that musicaly this album set the ground for my later exploration of sludge metal. But the best part of album was harmonized vocals of Staley and Cantrell in combination with some of the gloomiest lyrics I knew.
17. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
This is one of the best hard rock albums I ever heard. It's a true "sex, drugs and rock & roll" album, with great rock guitar riffs and bluesy solos by Slash that made me start playing rock on guitar instead of only limiting myself to metal music. Also vocal deliverance by Axl was great (even do he's a prick now, ok he was allways kind of a prick) and he was my favorite rock singer at that time, now not so much.

No problem, sorry for high-jacking your list. It gave it a little attention though.

Also, one question. Is Sacrament the first Lamb Of God album your heard, or did you just prefer that one at the time? I'm wondering because it was a let-down for me when it went out.

It was first album I heard from them. But I like Sacrament and Ashes Of The Wake the same, so when it came on decideing what to put on this list, I listed first album I heard from them.

Um, I think it was 2007. They played with Municipal Waste, As I Lay Dying and Children of Bodom. Definitely not something I would go to nowadays, but at the time I could not think of a better lineup.
