+ The Making Of The Wretched Spawn

Before me is the new album of a band that needs no introduction, ladies and gentlemen, Cannibal Corpse. Is the nine round for this Americans, and with this album they prove that they're more active than ever.

Since their conception 15 years ago, Cannibal Corpse has been a polemical band, once banned in Australia, New Zealand and Korea, still banned from performing any material off their first three albums in Germany the Cannibals manage to sell millions of albums each year, as a matter of fact they were declared the top selling Death Metal band of the SoundScan era, and were the only Death Metal band to rank on the Billboard Top 200 album.
That, combined with the fact that in some countries the sale of their first albums is outlawed completely makes this particular band a success in sickness.

One would think that this affected Cannibal Corpse, they say that no, but I really think that yes, because if you compare the lyrics of albums like "Tomb Of The Mutilated" and this last one, you'll notice that the first releases contained sicker and gorier lyrics, filled to the brim with offensive images to any listener, that's the good stuff.

Well, let's get on with the album, I always thought that George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher was a much better vocalist than Chris Barnes, so again, I'm happy with the vocal outcome of this album, at least if you make an effort, you can understand this guy, with Barnes, was pure mumbling and grunting.

As I was saying, Cannibal Corpse is back, and after 15 years and 9 albums, they're able to unleash the fury upon their fans, with relentless vehemence they strike those notes and smash those drums, the album is a headbanging masterpiece, that even have some groovy pieces, like "Decency Defiled" (and don't get me wrong, this is groovy in the Cannibal Corpse way), other absolutely killers include "Nothing Left To Mutilate" and "Slain".

Maybe some can criticize that once you listened a Cannibal Corpse album, you've listened all, and maybe some are right on this, because these guys are doing straight Old School Death Metal since a long time, but I don't see what's the big deal with that, I mean if they do their stuff well, let's keep coming those albums right?

I've lost the track of Cannibal Corpse for a few albums now, so I can't really tell if this is better or worst than the previous, maybe the lyrics aren't as sick and twisted as the first albums, but surely the sound is more mature and more technical.
My final verdict: this one is a killer, maybe not the most innovative piece of Metal in the year, but surely one of the most aggressive.

I disagree about the Fisher vocals beeing better than Barnes.. to me Barnes has a different kind of voice that combines better with CC music style. But i completly agree with the rest of the review.

I find slain to be maybe the worst song of the album...

songs like blunf force castration sound better as killer songs in my ears..

Frantic Disembowelment is the best song off this album. How the fuck did Pat come up crazy riffs like that?

The only real issue I have with this album, is it's slightly too long... Fillers like "Blunt Force Castration" and "Bent Backwards And Broken" do bring the album down a bit. But songs like "Decency Defied", "Festering In The Crypt", "Cyanide Assassin" and the frenzied "Frantic Disembowelment" are among CC's best ever stuff. Only it's overall lack of consistency stops it from being up there with "KILL" and "Gore Obsessed" as their best and most consistent albums with Corpsegrinder at the mic! xD
