You're missing my favorites
Edge Of Sanity's Crimson, Sacramentum's Far Away from the Sun, and In Flames's The Jester Race!
I've got to admit I haven't listened to any of the albums you've listed here except for None So Vile. I'll definitely try to check out your top choices

This was a difficult year, originally I actually didn’t even have enough albums to fill Sacramentum is one I think would probably be into, I need to check that out.
Filosofem was an easy pick for top spot as it’s my favourite black metal album, you should definitely rectify that (Whether you skip the 20 minute keyboard track or not is up to you... I do).
Antichrist is a very short album but it’s a sentimental favourite of mine as it’s one of the albums that first got me into black metal.
Nemesis Divina is generally seen as Satyricon’s best, not my personal favourite by them but definitely give it a listen.

Two favorites from 1996
Evereve - Seasons
Dreadful Shadows - Buried Again
I listened to them back in the day, still a great listen today.

^ for me, the genres I enjoyed in the 90s were progressive metal, gothic and doom. Those were new and fresh (back then).

Well I just changed it to add a Doom album I had forgotten about (but the rest of the world seems to have forgotten about them too).
I was a little kid at the time I don’t remember what was fresh in the Metal world lol, to me I associate the decade with Black, Alternative and yeah also Gothic/Doom-Death movements but that’s as someone looking back at it from much later.

Extreme metal became big back then, I knew people who were into death and black, 90s black did nothing for me, but i did enjoy Death, Obituary, Edge of Sanity back then.

OK I'll check those out.
I saw that you don't have an album vote for Edge of Sanity's Crimson. Did you not like it? If you haven't heard it at all - you definitely need to do so! It's one of a kind!

Cryptopsy - None So Vile would be my personal number 1 here, but I can't complain about Filosofem being your choice, that is Burzum's best, and has a very unique sound and atmosphere, unlike anything else I've heard, even to this day.

I’ve never heard it, EoS isn’t a band I’m really familiar with. So the whole album is just one song?

None So Vile took me a while to get into, at first I felt it was trolling like what people who hate Metal think Metal is but eventually discovered it had quite a few hooks I really dug.
Yes Filosofem is truly one of a kind, probably the most an album’s atmosphere has ever grabbed me and not let go.

It's one majestic journey
But I don't want to overhype it - listen for yourself. I hope you like it

Damn this is so different from what my list would be, I don't really like any of these albums apart from Filosofem.
Much like everyone, I'd recommend Edge Of Sanity's Crimson, as well as Opeth's Morningrise, which I haven't seen discussed yet.
Desire's Infinity..., Forgotten Silence's Thots and The 3rd And The Mortal's Painting On Glass, as well as Empyrium's A Wintersunset... would be my other major recommendations for that year.

Thanks for the recommendations, some of those names I’m not familiar with but the Doomier ones sound like they might be up my alley. Yeah everyone is high on Edge Of Sanity it seems, I try to appreciate as many genres as I can but I’m just not the biggest Prog fan here but I will make sure to give that one a listen. Cheers.

VAC were my introduction to Electronic Industrial, I didn’t really respect Electronic music before then. Also previously given shoutouts to Skinny Puppy and :Wumpscut: cheers

Gonna redo some of my old comments since I don't necessarily agree with them anymore
And if that isn't another banger of a year! Not quite as great as '95 but still some fantastic stuff was released, including:
1. Edge of Sanity - Crimson
2. Burzum - Filosofem
3. Fishmans - Long Season (neo psychedelia)
4. Opeth - Morningrise
5. Kvist - For kunsten maa vi evig vike
6. Vornat - Gjotnejm
7. Desire - Infinity... A Timeless Journey Through an Emotional Dream
8. Depressive Silence - Depressive Silence II (dungeon synth)
9. Isänmaa - Yli peltojen, vetten ja tunturien
10. Amorphis - Elegy
