A List Of "Why The Hell Do You Like That" Albums That I Like
A List Of "Why The Hell Do You Like That" Albums That I Like
Basically, this is a list of those albums which are dear to me, but are often considered as (one of) the weakest releases of a certain band (Ensiferum, Helloween, Therion etc.) or in the Allen/Lande case, of certain musicians.
1.
Allen/Lande
- The Battle
2005 (Some people were expecting a strong duel of the two singers, instead of getting a soft duet. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable and relaxing album.)
2.
Elvenking
- Two Tragedy Poets (...And A Caravan Of Weird Figures)
2008 (An acoustic album! Noooo. Well, actually Yesss! Elvenking proved to be alive and kicking (ass) with TTP, after the previous bad effort 'The Scythe'.)
3.
Ensiferum
- Victory Songs
2007 (Jari left, Petri sucks monkey ass! But, setting that 'argument' aside, Ensiferum is still Ensiferum and this album is still awesome (see how 'awesome' is an argument while 'sucks monkey ass' is not? ;) ))
4.
Helloween
- Rabbit Don't Come Easy
2003 (Some would say it's "Chameleon pt. 2, but this is the first Helloween album that I listened to, and one of those that got me into metal. Plus it's coming from a very tough period for the band. And it has some really good songs like 'Just A Little Sign', 'Don't Stop Being Crazy' and 'Listen To The Flies'.)
5.
Hollenthon
- Opus Magnum
2008 (Word 'sold out' spring to mind. Or at least trying to. Then again, who cares even if they did? We're not twelve anymore. The album sounds great (especially when this is the first Hollenthon album that you listened to) and that's all that matters.)
6.
Iced Earth
- The Glorious Burden
2004 (A change of vocalist (Barlow -> Owens), a change of style and some over the top USofA patriotism! That can't be good (especially the last part)! ;) This album sounds more Euro than US power metal, and therefore it may be more catchy/cheesy than previous IE albums. So, mind your anti-change sentiment, 'cause this one deserves more than a spin or two.)
8.
Sonata Arctica
- The Days Of Grays
2009 (TDoG and Unia, some would say 'Gay & Gayer', but the latent homosexuality and homophobia of the aforementioned crowd that derives from it are not a merit for this album. It diverges from Sonata's original style, and it's a more complex release. Grow over you prejudice - it may not be and insta-hit like 'Silence' or 'Ecliptica', but it grows strongly on you after a couple of more listening sessions.)
9.
Within Temptation
- The Silent Force
2004 (Gone commercial. Even made on MTV. Plague be upon them! TSF may mark a turning point in WT's carrier toward 13-year of wannabe-goth girl fans. Again, as we are not delusional 13-year olds, let's stick to the music itself - which is of grade A quality, with some unforgettable songs like 'It's The Fear', or 'Aquarius'.)
10.
Therion
- Gothic Kabbalah
2007 (Basic argument about this is that it's the weakest Therion album so far (or at least in the post-death metal era). On the other hand, Therion haven't made a bad album yet, have they? :) GK is just one of the stars in the constellation that is Therion, and while it may seem more distant to some, it doesn't mean it shines less brightly than the others.)
