Exocrine is a French progressive technical death metal band formed a little over a decade ago in 2013. These metallers have been on an impressively consistent streak of releases since their debut Unreal Existence back in 2015, and are one of the best modern death metal bands in my opinion since their 2018 release Molten Giant.

This is some pretty solid proggy tech death and I'm especially impressed by the lead guitar work, I'd even say I'm equally impressed overall by this release than their previous effort. "Dragon" is a definite highlight for me though.

Yeah, the lead guitar work is exemplary for such a technical album.

If you really mean what you say above, why the weak votes?

Not sure how 7 is a weak vote. It's actually a good rating. It doesn't mean the guitar work is exemplary that this album is the epitomy of brilliance and deserves an 8-10 rating. That's one aspect of it. Idk, I think tintinb's rating is fine same for AndyMetalFreak nothing to write home about. You can praise aspects of an album and still think its an overall 7. Also what's up with people thinking 7 is a bad score? Not all is black or white, there's zones of gray and with an increasing pool of Metal bands, they really have to release exceptional albums to get high praises and scores. The genre is aging and we're getting more severe over time.

I just think words like "solid" and "exemplary" would mean at least an 8.
7 is closer to 6 and 5 than it is to 10. 7 would be not so solid or exemplary for me. "Different strokes for different folks."

Yes! I think it's because of the strange (stupid?) standard set by so many metal publications/sites and tbh just review sites in general for any type of art, in which they just rate anything they like 8/10 at the very least. It skewes the perception of a good 7/10, even a 6/10 is an enjoyable time imo. There's also the color coding part of this website where a 7 and even 8 are still in the yellows, pisses me off xD
This whole overrating thing is like a pet peeve of mine tbh, glad you seem to think similarly to me

I've recently tried to adjust my album votes as I realized I often use them in an inflationary manner. It helped once I started thinking in a 5 star format. I mean, 3/5 stars is a pretty good rating, so the equivalent is a 6/10, which, however, is associated as negative here by most people (and indeed the orange color doesn't help).

The text associated with the rating on MS (5="not good", 6="average", 7="good") is more accurate than the colors, I think. I'm also trying to stay consistent in that way, rating albums that are so-so a 6, ones that I don't like 5 and below, and ones that I enjoyed in an above-average way a 7 and above.
