It is difficult to label Necrophobic accurately, but doing so could help a newcomer find out if this is the band they are looking for. The band is sometimes referred to as a blackened death metal formation, often with 'melodic' attached. However, the melodic quality is achieved in an uncommon fashion; Necrophobic make sure to drop so many tritones and semitones in their melodies that if one was to take a sip of whiskey every time those intervals appeared, they would die rather quickly. Hrimthursum is melodic indeed, but in its own sinister way. Generally speaking, if you assert your expectations for Necrophobic's output on the basis of their name, you will get exactly what you expect.

Shit, they still sound very angry on this album...
I think the sound is flawless and "I Strike With Wrath" one of the best songs they have ever written.

for whatever reason, Necrophobic seems largely neglected by Metalstorm. I don't get it, they have so many incredible releases

Perhaps 5 years ago, but both Mark of the Necrogram and Dawn Of The Damned have got a lot of positive attention on the site; not sure why it seemed to start with Mark... rather than their previous ones, but both are solid albums. Hrimthursum is definitely their most memorable from what I've heard though - Blinded By Light, Enlightened By Darkness absolutely rips (I think I can thank Trevor Strnad posting the song on his facebook page for introducing me to the album and band).

You're absolutely right and I think in MS they started getting attention with the last 2 albums.

Yes i wud love if some staff write reviews of their albums. They are less prominant here and I came across their albums only 2 years before. Really they deserve more attention.

The previous album was reviewed by Nik, and the latest one will also be when he finds the time

I confirm.

On topic, I think the reason why Necrophobic have gained some more attention here on MS and elsewhere is partly due to them signing with Century Media before releasing Mark Of The Necrogram. Bigger label, bigger exposure. Hrimthursum is one of their best albums, and they had somewhat of a decline after this, but they have come back strong with the last two and the return of their debut vocalist. They have an admirable discography overall.

A very consistent album. My second favourite of theirs after The Nocturnal Silence.

Wow! This sounds awesome! Fantastic evil melodic death/black metal!
My favorite tracks are I Strike with Wrath and The Crossing - those choir-backing vocals and those melodic instrumental sections mixed with the demonic lead vocals are perfect!
