you're extremely late checking this one out. The album was already out in February an was highly anticipated by followers of revivalist old school death metal. How come you're only checking it out now? Or does that have to do with that list on that lLovecraftian named band's facebook page.

Yep, weirdly almost all the people on that page are namechecking the same bands, which are almost all old-school death and doomy death metal. Much of it seems uninteresting though, or just not that special, Irkallian Oracle, Beyond and a few others seems merely just good or decent. Lots of people mentioning Bolzer too which I'm surprised about as I thought they were less known than they are.

Don't listen to much Death Metal anymore but if I were to get back into it this would be a great candidate for the purpose. Lots of grit and dark.

Definitely one of the best things I've heard from the genre.

No, not the best I've heard from the genre, thats for sure. Obliteration, Disma just to name a few are better. Still very good and love the high bass here, the closest I've ever heard to Obliteration who are the best in that department.

Also this is not in my 2013 list, goes to show that I didn't aim big/deep enough that year, should've targeted atleast 1k albums. Anyway its added now.

EDIT: I'm an idiot, this needs proper speakers to be enjoyed fully which I haven't had the chance to yet. I still think is not as good as Disma/Obliteration mainly because this is slightly doom/death. Also this is more death-y and the bass-y than its successor which is why I prefer this over that. Really good stuff though.

nonZero

8.5/10 leaning towards an 8 I'd say.

More dynamics and experimentation with other atmospheres would likely boost it up to a 9. As it stands, it's a fairly (but not excessively) one-dimensional release (the trap many death metal bands fall into IMO).
