Rage Against The Machine - UK Charts Christmas Number One

Quite cool isn't it.

The Christmas number one is a big thing over here. Every year, even if you didn't normally listen to the chart show, people would tune in on their radio to find out what the UK Christmas number one was.

Since 2005 however, Simon Cowell and his popular TV show The X Factor has stolen Christmas and the number one spot with the TV show's winner's single. This year the show was won a week ago by a young lad called Joe McElderry and has released his first single "The Climb" (originally Miley Cyrus) in the hopes of fulfilling the X Factor tradition and be the fifth X Factor winner to steal the Christmas number one spot.

To some people this has taken some of the magic away from Christmas, and so a Facebook group has been campaigning to get people to buy none other than Rage Against The Machine's 1992 track "Killing In The Name" in the hope of getting it to the Christmas number one spot and being the "David to the X Factor's Goliath" as Tom Morello has commented.

It started as an unrealistic idea to protest against Simon Cowell and his stranglehold on the UK charts, but soon captured the nation's attention and right now the group currently has nearly one million members! The Christmas number one battle is back, and has been one of the top national stories all week.

The Rage Against The Machine song was at a slight disadvantage by only being available via download, where Joe's single was in every shop in the country as well as available for download sales.

And we did it! The people of the UK have made themselves heard as we made Rage Against The Machine and "Killing In The Name" Christmas number one 2009 and stopped Simon Cowell's run of the charts he has had for four years.

The Facebook campaigners can be proud of themselves for bringing the rap/funk metal anthem back into the spotlight and certainly making headline news tomorrow morning. History has been made this evening, the people have spoken!

Tom Morello has promised a free headlining Rage Against The Machine show in the UK next year to celebrate. Zack de la Rocha has commented that the money made is going to be going to a shelter charity, and confirms the band will do a free show here next year.

Also making a one-off appearance in the top ten was Journey, with their 1981 hit "Don't Stop Believin'" at number nine after a similar, smaller campaign to stop The X Factor single reaching number one.

Six Feet Under - Slayer Cover Streaming Online

Six Feet Under are streaming their new cover of Slayer's "At Dawn They Sleep" at their MySpace page. Graveyard Classics 3 will see a release on 19 January 2010.

Commented Chris Barnes: "We chose the track "At Dawn They Sleep" to be the first single off Graveyard Classics 3. We've wanted to do a Slayer song for a while and lots of our fans have been requesting that we do a Slayer song as well; "At Dawn They Sleep" really seemed like it would lend itself to our style. And, to be honest, I've always preferred the early Slayer stuff, Hell Awaits and prior. I think the production and song structure of their early recordings are raw and in your face, in a very dynamic way, and that's the type of band SFU is, so it seemed to fit on a bunch of different levels.

Graveyard Classics 3 cover art] tracklist:

01. A Dangerous Meeting Mercyful Fate cover]
02. Metal On Metal Anvil cover]
03. The Frayed Ends Of Sanity Metallica cover]
04. At Dawn They Sleep Slayer cover]
05. Not Fragile
06. On Fire Van Halen cover]
07. Pounding Metal Exciter cover]
08. Destroyer Twisted Sister cover]
09. Psychotherapy
10. Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck Prong cover]

After 7 years, roughly 200 different bands representing 18 countries, and several venue changes, the Maryland Deathfest has developed into the premier metal festival in the United States, and one of the most talked about festivals internationally.

The concept of Maryland Deathfest is simple: to bring to the United States the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Never conforming to trends, or being limited by genre restrictions, Maryland Deathfest is a showcase of what extreme music, both new and old, is capable of. With an emphasis on diversity, the festival brings together the very best death metal, grindcore, thrash, hardcore, black metal, and experimental bands from all around the world. With bands from all over the U.S. and Canada, and exclusive fly ins and rare appearances from some of the most in demand bands from Europe, Australia, and Japan, the diversity of the lineup is only surpassed by the diversity of MDF's rabid fan base, who annually travel from all over the world for a weekend of fun and music.

Since Maryland Deathfest's inception in 2003, festival organizers Ryan and Evan have continued to strive to bring together some of the most legendary bands in the scene and some of the most talked about up-and-coming bands in the underground for an unparalleled experience. Combining the DIY attitude of two young metal fans who are actually part of the scene instead of trying to exploit it, with a refreshing professional touch, Maryland Deathfest is year after year given high marks for being one of the best run and most organized festivals around.

High On Fire - New Album Details

High On Fire have completed work on its long-awaited, fifth studio album and follow-up to 2007's Death is This Communion. Titled Snakes for the Divine, the record will drop on February 23, 2010 via E1 Music.

Recorded at The Pass Studios in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman, Snakes for the Divine is High On Fire's magnum opus, capturing every nuance of the legendary band's ongoing musical progression and evolution into one of heavy music's all time greats. Sharper, faster and darker than anything the group has ever recorded, Snakes for the Divine is an unrelenting tour de force, showcasing cult guitar hero Matt Pike's utterly unique and inventive musicianship and the band's epic, thundering sound.

Premium production by Fidelman - the man who produced Slayer's World Painted Blood and is mixing the upcoming Metallica live album - boosts High On Fire's strength and power while blackened lyrical tales of ancient wars, frozen planets and doomed societies emerge from Pike's bellowing barks and throaty war cries. From the moment the leviathan-like title track explodes to kick off the album, it is immediately evident that High On Fire is determined to push modern heavy metal into new and uncharted realms. Snakes for the Divine's album artwork will be brought to life by longtime High On Fire cover artist Arik Moonhawk Roper.

Snakes For The Divine tracklist:

01. Snakes For The Divine
02. Frost Hammer
03. Bastard Samurai
04. Ghost Neck
05. Fire, Flood & Plague
06. How Dark We Pray
07. Holy Flames Of The Fire Spitter
08. Mystery Of Helm
