Evile - Tragic Death Of Mike Alexander

Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile's Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden.

Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.

There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.

It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.

We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.

Mike is much loved and is sorely missed.

Rest in peace, brother."

So for the Beauty and the Beast tour in November (with Leaves' Eyes, Atrocity, Elis and Stream Of Passion), Roland Navratil from Edenbridge and Dignity will step in as a session drummer. It is not the first time we work with Roland, as he also replaced Jonathan on our European tour back in 2004/2005. We are looking forward to work with him again, and we would like to wish Jonathan the best of luck and some great time with his family."

Slagmaur - New Song Streaming

Slagmaur's spokeswoman has sent out the following message:

""Klokker Tramp", a track taken from "Von Rov Shelter", the new album from Black Metallers Slagmaur, is now streaming on the band’s MySpace page at www.myspace.com/slagmaur. "Von Rov Shelter", which means "Lair of the Beast" in Norwegian, was released this month on Osmose Productions.

The album was composed using much the same techniques as those used by 18th Century composers, but with standard rock instruments mingling with the more classical instrument such as cellos and double basses, which Slagmaur's mastermind, General Gribbsphiiser, learned to play especially for the album. "Von Rov Shelter", was produced by Gribbsphiiser and Snorre W. Ruch of Thorns, and includes lyrics by Thomas B Whitaker, an inmate on Death Row at the Polunsky Unit, in Livingstone, Texas, and guest vocals from Krush and the late Steingrim (Kaosritual, Celestial Bloodshed, Selvhat), who was recently killed in a shooting accident.

Aside from Gribbsphiiser, Slagmaur's line up includes Åtselgribb on vocals and bass and Wardr on drums, and is probably one of the most reclusive bands in Norway's Black Metal scene. The band is known for producing a complex, sinister, multi-layered sound filled with menace, that reveals different aspects at each hearing, and whose atmosphere can change depending on the mood of the listener.

The artwork for the album is by photographer and graphic artist Tine Marie Lund Kristensen and artist Robert Hoyem, and is based on a concept by General Gribbsphiiser. The front cover is a representation of Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting "The Last Supper", and the set itself took three weeks to build and light in order to capture the feel of the original as faithfully as possible. The figures of Christ and the Apostles are represented by band members, friends and even fictional characters, in the guise of various satanic, biblical or historical figures. Thorns' Snorre W Ruch takes on the role of Cain, Åtselgribb is Judas Iscariot, Freddy Krueger is Nero, Bzilla is Legion, Krush is Belial, General Gribbsphiiser and Lilith are themselves."

Armored Saint - To Enter The Studio

Armored Saint are set to enter Tranzformer Studios in Burbank, CA to begin recording the band's 6th full-length studio album. Tranzformer Studios is owned by Dave Jerdan (Alice In Chains, Jane's Addiction, etc) who produced Armored Saint's 1991 classic "Symbol of Salvation" and Bryan Carlstrom who handled engineering on the same album. The Saint will be working with Bryan Carlstrom who will once again handle engineering duties with the bands very own Joey Vera producing, and both Joey and Bryan mixing the record. A partial song list for the upcoming album, which is expected to hit streets in the spring 2010 is: "Black Feet", "Chilled", "Loose Cannon", "Blues", "La Raza", "Head On", "Get off the Fence", "Left Hook From Right Field".

Here's what Armored Saint vocalist John Bush had to say about how the new album came together: "About a year and a half or so ago Joey asked me if I'd be interested in writing some songs. I was in the right mind finally, so I said send me something. To be quite honest, I wasn't thinking in terms of Armored Saint but more like just writing rock music. I felt pretty free with that mentality and the ideas felt very organic. With every passing song things improved and next thing we knew we had about eight songs demoed. Although the idea of sparking something completely new was appealing it became clear that if it was Joey and I the reality was, let's not kid ourselves; this is Armored Saint. So here it comes. Embracing my inner R&B singer and coupling that with our influence of the great seventy's hard rock band's we grew up on."

Armored Saint bassist Joey Vera comments: "John and I began writing over 14 months ago and in the beginning we had only a general musical direction in which we were going. Once we decided to keep writing and with more of an intention of turning it into an Armored Saint project, we were faced with a few questions. One was, how does this new music we're writing fit into the current musical styles of today? And should we care? We quickly answered the latter. We realized we should do what we always did and that is to write good songs. And for ourselves first. We are not unaware of our parameters in which we have created over the past 25 years, but we are also not afraid to take chances and simply do what we do best. The idea of trying to continue where we left off over 10 years ago since our last release is not very appealing to me. I have to let go of what I did in 1991 and in 2000. Nothing at all against what we've recorded in the past but my head is in a different place now. Trust me; I still want to kill your senses with music, but just in a different way."

Italian deathcore specialists Stigma have been holed up in pre-production for their as-yet-untitled sophomore release which will be produced by former Bleeding Through and current Bring Me The Horizon guitarist Jona Weinhofen and mixed & mastered by Scott Atkins (Behemoth, Cradle Of Filth, Sylosis, Ignominous Incarceration).

More information, regarding guest appearances, studio reports, and live dates will be announced in the coming months. Stigma's follow up to 2008's "When Midnight Strikes!" will be released via Pivotal Rockordings worldwide next year.
