Nevermore - Guitarist Posts Update After Kidney Transplant

Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth has posted the following update at his official website, after having a successful kidney transplant operation:

"The time has finally come to share a very important piece of news, directly related to my health. On December 12th, 2006, I had a successful kidney transplant! After 6 straight months on dialysis, changes to my lifestyle and diet, and a very thorough search for a suitable donor, by early August 2006, we had a preliminary match. Several rounds of blood and tissue typing tests had to be subsequently performed to ensure we were a perfect match for transplant; the main reason for my hesitance in saying anything publicly during those months.

The donor shall remain nameless, but my gratitude to him for his selfless act of kindness and friendship will endure forever! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this means to me!

I am now on the road to recovery, as they say. This is mainly requiring a lot of adjustment to medications I will be on for the rest of my life, a small price to pay to be free from dialysis, and the restrictions it places on a person, both mentally and physically. I had no idea how much freedom I took for granted before all of this hit. 2006 was a big revelation of the frailty of human life for me, something I will not take for granted again.

Where does all this lead to next? I've been advised by my doctors that I will not be able to travel in any capacity for the next 6 months, as I have to adjust to immunosuppressant drugs to fight any possible form of rejection of the kidney, and my body needs time to recover from this operation, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes. All things that only make one stronger!

Obviously, my health must come first, but of huge importance to me is my loyalty to the rest of Nevermore, and as soon as I am deemed fit and ready to hit the road again, I will. I've already written 4-5 songs in various stages for the next Nevermore record, when the time comes to do one."

Detonation - New Album In April

This is the last statement of the Dutch band about their upcoming new album to be released in April 2007 through the French label Osmose.

"Hello people!

Finally some breaking news about the upcoming 3rd full-length Detonation album! We're very proud to announce that our new album will be titled "Emission Phase". It's a conceptual story, and I'm not yet going to spoil everything, but check out the artwork and titles and you might get an idea!

So far Thomas has finished the drumtracks in Excess studios, and next week Mike and I will start recording the guitars together with producers Jochem Jacobs (Textures) and Bouke Visser at Split Second Sound studios in Tilburg.

Musically, it's intense melodic Death/Thrash metal as always, but we've managed to capture a powerful groove and impressive level of quality in the new songs. In other words, it's our best work to date. And we're not just saying this because it's our new album

Here's the complete track list:

1. Invoking the Impact
2. When Stone turns to Ash
3. Craven Ablaze
4. Into the Emission Phase
5. Chokedamp
6. Defects of the Isolated Mind
7. Modulate
8. Infected
9. Soul Severance
10. Reborn inside the Radiance
11. Fallout (instr)

The cover was done by by Eliran Kantor: http://www.elirankantor.com

You can see it at this location: http://detonation.wingsofdeath.nu/images/graphics/intro.jpg

Expect a killer release in April!'"

Amon Amarth - Back From Tour And Preparations On New Video

The following message was posted by the band on their official website:

"The last two months have been hectic, but we've had a blast. The headlining tour in Europe went over expactations and we'd like to thank Wintersun and Tyr, as well as our European crew and of course everyone who came to the shows. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
After the last show in Hamburg we flew straight to Detroit to join Children of Bodom, Gojira and Sanctity on the North American leg of the tour and although it was taxing and with some off stage problems, the tour was nothing but awesome and successful for us! It was great to see the support we got every night and we want to thank you fans for that."

They are having some time off from the band, but later this month they will start preparing for the Scandinavian leg, and on the 25th they'll start shooting the second video for the new album. "Cry Of The Blackbirds" is the chosen song.

Gaia Epicus - Vocalist Starts Own Record Label

"After having reviewed 6 offers for a new record deal there was only 2 that could have been interesting to proceed, but we didn't go with any of these offers. For some time Thomas have been thinking about the idea to start his own label, and now was the right time to try and do just that. So the new album will be released on his new label which is called Epicus Records.

Release date for the new Gaia album will be in the end of January or early February 2007. One more song from the new album can be heard at Epicus Records Myspace page (3 songs total)"

Soilwork - Entering The Studio In March 2007

Sweden's SOILWORK check in with the following band update:

"First of all, we wanna say thanks for a great 2006. We had a great year and alot of great tours. It was fun to see you all out there. Since the release of Stabbing The Drama in 2005, we made about 250 shows for that album. Now its time to take a rest, but also to get focused on the upcoming album.

Right now we're working on the new songs. We have about seven songs ready and so far it sounds great. It will be a killer album. We will enter the studio at the beginning of March and, hopefully, the album will be out in late summer. We will keep you updated of the recording progress. And... regarding the guitarist situation... soon it will be decided who's gonna replace Peter. So, once again... thanks for the great support and... see ya in 2007."

As previously reported, Soilwork's guitarist, Peter Wichers, left the band in December 2005 to pursue a career in producing.
