Hooded Priest - Guitarist To Sit Out Upcoming Shows

Dutch doomsters Hooded Priest have scheduled a handful of gigs in The Netherlands and Belgium over the next couple of months. The band will be supporting Procession in Antwerp on 18 February, together with their comrades from Children of Doom, after which they'll be playing on the Back Against The Wall Fest in The Hague (1 April), Nepherex Fest in Dendermonde (23 April) and the Dordrecht Doom Day in, duh, Dordrecht (14 May).

Guitarist J-Maze (his parents called him Joe Mazurewicz), however, will be forced to sit out those live shows, as he's becoming a father by the end of April. On one or two gigs he will be replaced by Heinrich von Irm, who helped out the band before on bass. J-Maze will rejoin the band in the second half of the year as the band is hoping to do some shows abroad.

Tesla - Recording Acoustic Anniversary Album

Vocalist Jeff Keith and guitarist Frank Hannon have been working in the studio recording some tracks for the "acoustic" style album that US hard-rockers Tesla have been planning to release in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their multi-platinum Five Man Acoustical Jam album.

There is no tentative title for the new release yet, but expect to hear some never before heard versions of Tesla classics such as "Changes", "Paradise", as well as some recordings of studio versions from the 2004 acoustic tour. Also featured will be a brand new song called "2nd Street", and the infamous "Better off without You" recorded acoustically.

Imagika - Are Calling It Quits

US Power/Thrash metal band Imagika have called it a day.

Lead guitarist, songwriter and only remaining original member, Steve Rice, commented as follows on the bands demise: "All things must come to an end and for Imagika the time is now. After 17 years, 7 worldwide releases, 2 vocalist, 5 guitarist, 3 bassist, 2 drummers, countless performances and tour dates I've decided to put the band to rest. The reasons are many, but the truth is that it's time for something new and to move forward without being bound to the past. I'm not mourning the end because I'm grateful the band lasted as long as it did.

I look forward to building upon the music and legacy of a band I spearheaded for close to 2 decades with my new project. I would personally like to thank all the fans, press, labels, booking agents, promoters, venues, studios, engineers, artist, instrument manufactures and everyone else that had a helping hand in Imagika's career. It could not have happened without you! I will personally still handle and oversea everything Imagika post mortem for the foreseeable future.

Moving forward, drummer Wayne Devecchi, former Eldritch guitarist Roberto Proietti and I have formed a new Thrash metal project that will take our collective musical ideas to the next level. Fans of our past bands music will not be disappointed as we've put together some great catchy material that is melodic, complex and heavy. A five song instrumental demo has already been recorded and we are presently seeking a pro vocalist and bassists to complete the project."

Unearth - Tap Killswitch Engage Drummer For New Album

Unearth has commenced recording their next album, recruiting Killswitch Engage's Justin Foley to lay down the drum tracks.

The band had the following to say: "We wanted to let everyone know that tracking for the new album has officially begun! We're currently at Zing Studios in Westfield, MA tracking drums with our sit-in drummer for the album Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed. Foley was an obvious choice for this album for many reasons, but mainly because of his abilities and knowledge of heavy music as well as his long time friendship with the band. A decade plus of friendship has made this an easy transition for the band, Foley and our producer/engineer Adam D."

In other news, the band has decided to change the mixing engineer for the album to Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, DevilDriver, Trivium) from Audiohammer Studios. "Mark is another long time friend of the band and we're excited to hear what he can do with our sound on record."

Guitarist Buz McGrath added the following irrelevant comment about working with Mark: "Mark Lewis mixed me a drink once and I woke up in a swamp covered in anti-freeze."

Unearth is aiming at a mid to late June release for the album, followed by a massive world tour.

Ava Inferi - Introduce New Bass Player

Ava Inferi are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio effort Onyx, to be released in February. In the meantime, the band welcomes new bass player Joana Messias (Mourning Lenore) to their ranks.

Ava Inferi main man Rune Erickson (ex-Mayhem, Aura Noir) writes: ""To 2011! The year one!". Although Roman Castevet linked 1966 and a birth to this very phrase, we in Ava Inferi forged the same praise into our own symbolic terms for this newly charged Year. With the magick rites of Onyx soon pouring over us, we definitely sense a year of potent transformation. From cocoon to butterfly, or winged beast if you will, our impact is most certain impending. And what could a better time then now, whilst the new year still struggles to get up on its feet, to announce a new member to our Coven (?!).

It is with great confidence and satisfaction we announce our new 4 string doomster, namely: Joana Messias. We are very excited to commence the live sessions with her on board, knowing there will be a deeper and heavier contribution to our wall of sound! So lets all raise the chalice to this new dawn of AI: To 2011! The year one!"

More Onyx album details were previously reported here.
