A list of metal albums inspired and based with themes from the works/writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Recommendations/suggestions are welcome. Only one album per band and album featured on MS.

- Where The Dreams No Longer Exist
2007 - Melodic Death - Amon Dîn was the first and oldest of the seven warning beacons of Gondor. It is Sindarin (Elven language) for 'silent hill'.

- Lost In Moria
2005 - Power - 'The Gates of Argonath' are two enormous statues carved in the likenesses of Isildur and Anárion which stand either side of the River Anduin. Moria is a Dwarven underground city.

2004 - Black/Folk - Avathar is a dark land in the south of the continent of Aman in between the mountains and the sea.

- Black Wings
2010 - Melodic Death - The one ring created by Sauron in Mount Doom. Isildur was a man who had the opportunity to destroy it, but didn't.

- Sword's Song
2003 - Folk/Power - Heavily influenced by the characters and events in Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.

- Nightfall In Middle-Earth
1998 - Power - The album is based around 'The Silmarillion'.

Bob Catley
- Middle Earth
2001 - Hard Rock/Heavy Metal - Middle-earth is the habitable part of Arda (the world/Earth), 'Endor' in the Elven language. In old Nordic language it was called 'Midgard'.

- Det Som Engang Var
1993 - Ambient/Black - Burzum translates to 'darkness' in The Black Speech, spoken by the orcs.

- Onwards To The Spectral Defile
1999 - Black - Cirith Gorgor is a mountain range near Mordor and was sealed by the Morannon (The Black Gate).

- King Of The Dead
1984 - Heavy/Doom - Cirith Ungol was a mountain pass or/and a tower in Mordor near Minas Morgul.

- I Am The Enemy
2003 - Black - Dol Amoroth was a city or land which formed part of the kingdom of Gondor.

Draugûl
- The Voyager
2013 - Epic Black - Draugûl is a speech of Mordor meaning "The Curse of the Wolf".

Eldamar
- The Force Of The Ancient Land
2016 - Atmospheric Black - Eldamar is an elven region of Aman.

Emyn Muil
- Túrin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga
2014 - Epic/Atmospheric Black - Emyn Muil are hills of rocky crags near Rohan.

Hithlum
- In The Land Of Mordor, Where The Shadows Lie
2005 - Pagan Black - Hithlum is an Elven realm north of Beleriand.

- The Awakening
2003 - Power - Mordor is a dark, volcanic wasteland south-east of Middle-earth.

Minas Morgul
- Schwertzeit
2002 - Pagan/Black - Minas Morgul was a city-fortress in Mordor, the city is home to the Witch-king of Angmar and Lieutenant Gothmog.

2008 - Folk/Death - 'Gondolin' was the hidden city of the Elves from Tokien's The Silmarillion.

2002 - Black/Folk - The Nazgûl (ringwraiths) were the servants of Sauron.

2013 - Epic/Black - Númenor was an island kingdom that was raised up from the sea by the Valar.

2001 - Heavy/Power - Influenced by Tolkien's writings as well as religious and illusionist themes.

2005 - Black/Folk - Rivendell is an Elven outpost/city and is referred to as "The Last Homely House East of the Sea"

Saruman
- Ride On The Darkside
2002 - Atmospheric/Death - Saruman was a powerful white wizard of the order of 5 and is head of the white council (formed by Elves and Wizards).

- Sombras Del Este
2002 - Folk - The band has songs based on the character 'Tom Bombadil' from The Lord of the Rings.

- Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame
2001 - Epic/Atmospheric Black - The album is based around The Hobbit.

- The Halfling Forth Shall Stand
2011 - Folk - Tengwar was a script invented by Fëanor to writing the Elven languages, like Sindarin.

2004 - Heavy/Power - The one ring, the great and most powerful ring created by Sauron.

- Magic And Wyrmfire
2001 - Ambient/Black - Valar were the powers (or gods) who lived on the continent of Aman.

- Towards The Frozen Stream
1999 - Atmospheric Black - Many influences from Tolkien's writings.

Wuthering Heights
- Far From The Madding Crowd
2004 - Progressive/Folk - Heavily influenced by the characters and stories in Tolkien's books. The band is named after the novel by novelist, Emily Brontë.
