I think you covered it pretty well. Blackgaze and OSDM revival seem like the defining tastes right now. There's been an upswing in free jazz influence as well, I think, and I feel like dissonance is experiencing a surge in both.
This is a list that will gather my most recent discoveries in modern grind and affiliated sub-genres and variations (such as deathgrind, cybergrind, blackened grind etc...) that are worthy of a good number of listens. Keep in mind this isn't a "the absolute classics" kind of list. I'm both kinda ignorant and not that interested when it comes to powerviolence and early grind, but a few older releases and modern classics might find their way into this list because they're favourites of mine.
- Most of the items that have a significant amount of grindcore will be removed from my hardcore and sludgecore lists to avoid duplicates.
- Recs are more than welcome. I haven't been into this genre for long, don't hesitate to post. I have done a thorough selection, don't take it the wrong way if you don't see your favourite release here.
- This is in a perpetual work-in-progress state.
- Ordered anti-chronologically to give exposure to recent releases.
- Currently adding all the info and links.
- Will make a drawing for the thumbnail if not too lazy.
Damn, looks great so far. Unfortunately, I'm out so I can't give you recs yet, but I'm gonna give you your second conditional thumbs up. Lots of bands to check out.

Thanks! Really not quite finished with it, it takes so long to look for the bands/albums and then decide what to put in/leave out. I'm thinking I'll oder the list antichonologically, so the newer (and less obvious) albums get more visibility.
I too often browse MS on phone but always too lazy to type posts on it. Can't wait for your recs .
I'm gonna give you the first thumbs up. It's a conditional thumbs up. Give some love to either Prowler In The Yard or Terrifyer.
Ilham plis.
Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.
I want it because of reasons.
Reasons: Some of the bestest vocals in the genre. Few grind singers actually evoke something close to sadness I'd say. And because Towering Flesh is an amazing love song. <3

Grind in the area of extreme metal which I'm least familiar with. In the other words, this list could be helpful.
I also think that igorrr and WHOURKR wouldn't be out of place.

I'll add some info to each album and then come back and I'll help you select a few .
I don't like WHOURKR, too disjointed even for me. And Igorrr really feels a bit out of place for me. There's a good bit cyber grind in there sure, but the sum of all the other genres he plays with seem a bit too much for me to put it here.
Really liked that Genghis Tron album from the cybergrind style, really good album. Also check out Fist In Fetus, a mix of symphonic and grindcore.
I listened to that Fist In Fetus EP. I didn't hear any cyber in it, in fact it's totally symphonic, and there's not thaaaat much grind in there. I now have allergic reactions to metal mixed with symphonic stuff, and didn't find it extreme enough. I'm very sorry, but in other words, didn't like it at all. Don't take this the wrong way, you can rec something else if you want .

I think WHOURKR is much more straightforward and coherent than igorrr, but it's much heavier and intense maybe. To each their own

Don't have as many recs as I expected (probably because you already listed a lot of them), but I hope these will do regardless:
And yet you added a few to your original post . So, one by one:
- Antigama: heard of, had never tried until now, I put it on during my work out. It went super smooth. I'll let it sit for a while until I decide to add it or not.
- Exhumed: I haven't forgotten them, I just have no idea which to add, since I haven't played any in a while. I don't even think I listened to a release past 2009. Will have to investigate and catch up.
- Macabre: never tried any yet.
- A Million Dead Birds Laughing: same as above.
- Feto In Fetus: never heard of, seem like people like to put thing in foetuses, and my google inquiries are getting grittier and gritter by the hour.
- Wormrot: wasn't aware or their existence.
- Beaten To Death: I listened to Dodsfest not long ago, and liked it a good deal, it definitely deserves a spot here.
Thank you for all, will listen to the ones I don't know/haven't tried yet, and maybe keep you up to date if you like.

No problem if you don't like it, I can definitely understand the symphonic thing too Though I don't know much about grindcore, expect that Genghis Tron album so I couldn't give you any recs.
Then you should have looked better ;-). Vermin Womb is there, and I think that two Ethan bands for one list is more than enough. But hey, nice of you to suggest these great bands .
Uhhh.. I guess after 45 the eyes start to go? The mind exited stage left some time ago. These guys are influenced by grind, sludge, and punk.

Too much Ethan? BLASPHEMY!
Hehe, for this list it is enough .
Believe me or not, I've already listened to that demo, found them via a mixtape in which "Stop Asking" was featured. Are you my long lost twin or something?

Meteor is definitely one of my favorite grind records as of late. I still mean to try their stuff before that, but I don't think they'll top it.

I was never a fan of their early stuff, so I definitely think either All Guts, No Glory or Necrocracy would be a worthy contender. I also really liked their rerecording of Gore Metal they just released so that might be a good one, too.
The "humor" is pretty damn black (which is probably the main detractor of the band for me), but otherwise they are definitely a solid experimental grind outfit. The album I posted is a favorite of mine, though there are definitely others like Dahmer and Murder Metal.
- Feto In Fetus: never heard of, seem like people like to put thing in foetuses, and my google inquiries are getting grittier and gritter by the hour.
Truth be told, I completely forgot about this band until now. I don't really remember much about the album. And I did notice the recurring fetus theme. Pfff, grindcore.
- Beaten To Death: I listened to Dodsfest not long ago, and liked it a good deal, it definitely deserves a spot here.
I see you've added Dodsfest. I didn't like Dodsfest at all (despite the sweet Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air ref.) and thought Xes And Strokes was way better, but it's your list. I'm just suggesting.
I also have two more recs, but you're probably swamped from the other recs people gave you, so I'll wait until you put some on the list.

For your sake I can only hope that you were endowed with more aesthetically pleasing attributes than myself. However, anyone that would even jest about being my twin should be flogged on a semi-regular basis as there is something seriously wrong. No, really maybe we are twins as I am always looking to expand my horizons. I do not have to question your sense of humor as it seems to be self deprivating as well.

Now that's an answer I didn't expect. We'll just say you're my evil twin then, that will give me an excuse to dodge answering to a few details .
Also, welcome to MS since you're relatively new, it's always nice to see someone appreciative of super heavy shit dirty sludge around. Looking at the bands listed in your profile, I have a feeling you checked out the wrong list. I have one that would interest you more: here. And seeing you already know your stuff, I invite you post recommendations for me over there .

Thank you for the warm welcome. Being the of the age that I am I always think two or three dozen times on posting to forums and blogs due to the often rapid deterioration of etiquette of responding posts. Here is a link to my bandcamp collection

I really do admire the metal scene of today due to the absolute volume of different genres as I have been a metalhead from circa 1982. And no, my old vinyl did not make it to 2015.

Hey man I just wanted to give you a warm welcome as well. Always nice to have more new blood around these parts (sounds odd considering we're like 2 decades apart, but you get it).
If someone's giving you trouble here don't feel afraid to report it to the mods and they will get their new cement shoes or something.
I actually listened to this exact album some months ago and didn't like it all, sorry Rod .
Only reason I'm cool with it is because It's sunday and I'm hella drunk and super hyper and because you are awesome. *Smooch*
I should sleep... class tomorow. not cool.
