My own one-man band Maladomini is named after the 7th circle of the Nine Hells in D&D's Planescape setting. There, my secret is out.

1. Atreyu - Named after the character from "The Never Ending Story".
2. Death Angel weapons used in "Doom" and "Castlevania" series.
3. Tiamat - Named after a recurring character in the "Dungeons & Dragons".
Hope this helps, if not ignore it.

I'm not sure it is that Tiamat they are referring to with the band name. Tiamat was a Mesopotamian goddess of salt water frequently depicted as a dragon, which inspired the D&D Tiamat. Considering the early album titles of the band, I'm pretty sure they got it from mythology and not fantasy.

Thank you very much for your interesting suggestions, Cynic Metalhead.
I will try to find out if the band name was directly inspired by the corresponding game, or if both band and game were inspired by another source (Atreyu from the original book "The Never Ending Story" or Tiamat from Mesopotamian mythology). I will have a look. Thank you.

I am 99% certain that it is the Mesopotamian Tiamat, just check out the concepts of their early albums. Also, Johan Edlund never struck me as a fantasy buff or gamer. My source: being Swedish and having listened to them for most of my life.

I agree, Netzach. I just wanted to double check. However, the concepts of their early work clearly points to the Mesopotamian Tiamat.

Thank you again for posting your suggestions.
As far as I can tell, TIAMAT were named after the figure from Mesopotamien mythology (see discussion above).
Based on sources, I can say that the name ATREYU was directly inspired by the character from the book "The Never Ending Story" by Michael Ende.
I have found as interview with band members that say DEATH ANGEL comes from a book title (I have not found the author yet).
This is of interest for my MS book list. When I add it there, I will mention your suggestion that helped me.
I would like to encourage you to post more suggestions that you might have.
Thank you very much for your support, Cynic Metalhead.

Shadow of the Colossus is pretty obvious, although not in the database.
Spire Of Lazarus - Don't know about the name but they've released three albums based on Dark Souls, God of War and Prince of Persia respectively. 'Honorable mention' maybe.
Psychonaut - Might be from Tim Schafer's 2005 cult classic game Psychonauts, might not be.

A psychonaut is an old term for somebody who uses psychedelic substances to explore inner and outer realms, compare astronaut (star-traveller) to psychonaut (mind-traveller). It has been around since at least the 60s. I prefer my title "planewalker" (which is obviously also inspired by Planescape), which really comes from "plainwalker" (the plains of Ostrogothia), but that's beside the point.

I just listened to the title song via the bandcamp player. I liked it very much. Congratulations. I will take the time to listen to the whole album.

Thank you very much, Druss. I have added your interesting suggestion to the list.
Edit:
For transparency I may add that I have found this information only in data base entries or articles, but I have not found official information or an interview to confirm this.
Do you have seen something like an official source?
However, based on the available information, the link of the band name to the game co-founder seems to be correct.
Thank you again for your support, Druss.

This is correct, Netzach. I have found an interview in which band members confirm the link to past experiments with substances.

Thank you again, Nejde. I had a look and can confirm the Shadow of the Colossus example. Maybe I will add it even though they are not in the MS database when the list is longer.
I did not find a confirmation for the band name Spire Of Lazarus, but will continue to search, because the link of the band to video games is obvious.

So, this one will not make the list here.

Super Monster Party. "The band focuses on the perspective of characters from the worlds of classic video games, such as Altered Beast, Splatterhouse, and MONSTER PARTY" - that last one was released on NES in 1989.

It seems that the band Shadow Of The Colossus has been added to the MS database. I would have included it in this list anyway, but now it is even better.

I enjoy these, thanks for the list! I would add Tomb Mold, a modern Death Metal band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada named after an item in the video game Bloodborne used in Chalice Dungeon rituals. \m/

I have added the group to the list. Moreover, based on your hint, I could find another band that I did not know about, Daedric Armour.
