Paths Of Possession is a basic Death Metal act with semi-melodic tunes and a lot of catchy riffs; the music itself is often mid-paced with really mild drumming and few "moshing" parts, we do receive some blast-beats here and there though. This band actually looks more like a younger Unleashed than anything else; most tracks work better in the slower side actually, so, in terms of music, "The End Of The Hour" will be first praised for its melodious achievements and long bridges way before someone even talks about brutality or intensity.
This record shows a band trying really hard to succeed at what they're doing; in "The End Of The Hour", Paths Of Possession started working with more "sophisticated" features such as multi-faceted songwriting (with the pace of the music going from really slow to fast) and even a very interesting but unfortunately unsettled lyrical concept, so they still need to polish things around their notebooks. They do however have the potential to make a better album, so the only wise thing we can do is to keep an eye on this band for future efforts, that's all.
In the end this album isn't as coherent as most of us wanted it to be, the music surely has some good assets throughout the whole album, but it feels like something's missing in the closure. It is fun and very entertaining to hear what "Corpsegrinder" does outside Cannibal Corpse that's for sure... and this is way better than their previous pieces but it is also true that there's a lot of room for improvement, so if it's a matter of mathematics you can be the judge.
