Deafheaven is my favourite band. There is no denying this fact. Roads To Judah was a masterpiece, and their previous demos and EPs were also A+ material. So, naturally, once Sunbather was announced I nearly crapped myself out of pure elation. Once the time came and I could finally listen to the album I was?

This must be the best cover art I have seen in a while.

nice joking there.
Also, if you want to try this band, go for their debut.

Yep, the extremely subtle work of typography in this cover is such an unusual sight on MS. To me, that belongs on the cover of Vogue. It's beautiful.

I think that if you browse pop bands enough, especially among greatest hits compilation albums you'll find lots of similar stuff...
Well, still pretty different for a shoegaze black metal band

Yes of course. As I said, rare sight on MS, that's what caught my eye. But I myself have worked on typography projects similar to that.

Circle Takes The Square are irritating to the collar bone.

Thank you! Glad to see I'm not alone, they have such a large fanbase but I think they suck SO HARD. Ugh. The worst vocals ever.

Who makes you want to hate it? Is it God inside of your head? Dont listen to them voices, just listen to the music and feel the power of Satan.

Hahaha I had a good laugh thanks man !

This album isn't that bad, I guess I've changed my mind on Deafheaven. I'm still not a fan of the hipster black metal scene itself (tbh, who is?), but Deafheaven seems to do an alright job.

My favourite part about this album is how many losers can't get over the cover.

I still haven't found my ticket for the hype train for this album, but I'm feeling a bit warmer towards it when listening to it today compared to when it came out. I enjoyed the climactic few minutes of Vertigo, although it perhaps dragged on a bit too long

This album is tits. there is so much texture and melody layered into a very warm and enveloping guitar tone. The solo's are fantastic too.

This would be so much better without the vocals.
I am thinking of an instrumental album.
This one, just leaving out the vocals.
I would buy it immediately.
I am not sure I am going to buy the one at hand though.

Just watched their Pitchfork performance (some 5 years too late) and I absolutely love how they look like they'll play some Weezer songs and then start with blast beats. It's all part of their charm, being against the kvlt and elitist image and making incredible music which is liked by hipsters, metal fans (those who aren't narrow minded enough to write them off without listening) and everybody in between

I originally started listening to this album expecting to hate it. Blackgaze is somewhat similar to metalcore where it attracts a certain kind of subculture that is often scolded by the metal community. This album from front to back was amazing. The production is not the best, but it's filled with great melancholic guitars that still sounds kinda black metal, but with a shoegaze twist.

I even saw them live months ago and they were a phenomenal live band. I remember that there was more hipsters than any show I've been to, but I actually did not care. By the time they played dream house I was having a blast with their performance. I don't care what people say about sunbather, this album is a 10 for me.

So weird, this was my first introduction to Deafheaven and I hated it. After New Bermuda came out I really liked the album and I was like "maybe it was a fluke". Three albums after Sunbather, and after having seen them perform live, I would consider myself a fan of the band, and Im still trying to like Sunbather but I cant... Is it just me?

You are most probably in the minority, but you are definitely not alone. I could never get into Sunbather and to this date, New Bermuda is their only album I really like.

Agreed, New Bermuda is my favourite from them (although I did like Ordinary Corrupt Human Love a fair amount too), never clicked with the first two albums

Holy cow, this is really damn good record. Blackgaze isn't really my thing, but I think they found sweet balance between more hipster stuff and metal and the end result is surprisingly tasty.

The riff at 7:55 and the build up to it in 'The Pecan Tree' is probably my favourite part of this album.

I remember walking around the London underground listening to this album. I think I was heading to an Agalloch gig in Camden, which was awesome.

This needed a remaster remix/remaster, and I think its better now.
Relistening to this I still think it lacks flow, there is too much interludes but the highlights are great.
New Bermuda is my favorite but this remix is great for Dh fans.

Decided I'd go back to this and the couple of albums that followed to warm up for the new album given the level of hype it's generating; it's only taken a dozen listens but it might finally be clicking with me, I found myself enjoying most of the album
