2023 - The Worthy Ones

I've been meaning to start a 2023 list for quite a while, just trying to keep up, so here is the start of it. These are the albums that impressed me. I will update the list, obviously a work in progress.

Check out
Lars Fredrik Frøislie - Fire fortellinger
Agusa - Prima Materia
The Chronicles of Father Robin (dumb name for a band, I know) - The Songs & Tales of Airoea
my prog rock aoties for 2023

I listened to Agusa.
I will check out the other two, Father Robin is planning a trilogy apparently, I don't know whether to listen to the first one or wait for the whole thing.

Eldritch

Didn't listen to their newer stuff, but Headquake is a pinnacle example of good power metal influenced prog metal. Criminally underrated.

True, early Eldritch is great. I followed the band since then. I enjoyed the former singer a lot, new singer is quite good, a pleasant surprise.

I don't know whether to listen to the first one or wait for the whole thing.

Since they decided to split it up, I guess it's self-contained enough. Anyway, the third part releases somewhere in 2024. I'd just give a couple spins to the first part now, especially since the second part is right around the corner.

I probably will give it a listen, just out of curiosity, it's talked about elsewhere as well.

There are at least 15 new albums I want to listen, plus a few releases that need more listens. Plus December releases.... I hope I succeed until the year is over.

List will be done after the MS awards, there are usually a few albums added after the MS Awards.

Camel recently released remasters of their classic albums and they all sound fantastic. Good opportunity to re-listen them.

I own a few Camel albums, I often go listen to them.
I bet that boxset is quite expensive, this kind of releases usually are.

The remasters are on streaming, so no need to buy overpriced boxset just to listen to them.

What streaming? I don't use any, well, except bandcamp.

Recently been relistening to Riverside's discography. How would you rank their albums?

That's really hard to rank because they never released anything weak.

That's really hard to rank because they never released anything weak.

They have released 8 albums so far, certainly you must enjoy some albums more than the others. You can rank some albums ex aequo in one place, if you can't decide.

I do like a few more than others, for sure. I overplayed the early albums which could affect the ranking, I loved the new one, where would I put it?! Shrine... was a favorite for quite a while.

I would have to do some proper listening just to do some justice.

Another top-tier norwegian prog rock album from this year. I don't know, norwegian scene is just built different.

I didn't even know they were working on a new album.
I will listen as soon as I can.

Japanese band this time. Symphonic prog, but way more symphonic in the literal sense and significantly heavier.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion.

75 albums before the MS awards start in a couple of weeks. Another great year with some great releases.

Probably a couple more albums will be added, discoveries from the awards, a few albums moved around a bit and this list will be done.
