So, Jon Shaffer and his bunch of ever-changing musicians are back in town with release number eleven, after 2011's Dystopia that finally set the bar pretty high, after maybe too many years of... well, not mediocrity, but of music that didn't live up to Iced Earth standards.

Let me start this review by saying that I really like this album. I even prefer it over Dystopia, which is pretty good album in my opinion.

I thought it was nothing special when it was released. After more listens it still does sound like that. The album is too long, there is a couple of better songs and the rest isn't especially good. I don't think it's quite as bad as their worst albums, however. Cthulhu stands out.

Drums sound ear-bleeding to me. So I don't agree with this review at all:
"The drums sound powerful without overruling the riffs or the vocals, the riffs and bass lines get the attention they deserve on this record, and the vocals are mixed in really well."

Once my eardrums adapted to the drum sound, my favourite tracks are Plagues of Babylon and Cthulhu. Spirit of the Times is also a good listen.

Easily my least favourite Iced Earth record, feels like listening to a bunch of leftover ideas thrown together. It's not a total waste of time as the middle part is quite okey but I probably won't listen to this one ever again in full.
