Coming so close to death would be a life-altering experience for anyone, so when it happened to Yob mainman Mike Scheidt, it did change his perspectives a lot. He linked it to having your hard dive crash, as you can only retrieve so much and the rest is lost. With there even having been doubts that Yob would continue, how does the change of perspective affect Our Raw Heart?

I never enjoyed Yob before but this is brilliant at times, the faster parts are a bit generic though.

Wasn't huge on all of it, but I'm loving the really psychedelic closing title track

I'm really surprised at that rating. I'm sure I enjoyed a Yob album in the past but this one just seems really badly written and kind of awkward to me, with a not very enjoyable combination of sound and vocals.

The Screen in particular feels like it was written in about 3 minutes:

"Er, what else should we add to this song?"

"I dunno man, I wanna go get a soy smoothie, just add some more of that chugging stuff in it and call it a day."

"But what about 'Lungs Reach'? Do you think it needs more?

"Nah, just let people get confused as to whether it's an interlude or an actual song"

"Beauty in Falling Leaves", my god... so much heart and soul in this song. If you don't feel it: I'm sorry to say you have no soul, you are probably ginger, or you simply heard too much Manowar.

Not sure why YOB gets any hate. Maybe its the hippies from Eugene thing. It's doom, which for me means slow metal with lots of mood . YOB has a mood that nobody else can replicate, a combination of tone and vocals. I think this is easily their best vocal and songwriting album. I don't think it is too much of a stretch to say YOB has had a huge influence on doom this millennium. Bell witch, Pallbearer, etc. They might not be best ever but definitely one of my favs. (I think "The Screen" might annoy people, and turn them off this album.)

I really enjoyed that song but now this comment has spoiled everything about it for me.

I really enjoyed that song but now this comment has spoiled everything about it for me.

I'm gonna take ruining a song for someone as my daily achievement.

Well the usual YOB. But clearing the path to ascend was a much better album. The vocals of this band is really irreplaceable.
