Rob Halford - Releasing Christmas Album

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with Judas Priest lead singer Rob Halford belting out Yuletide carols.

Halford will release Halford III ? Winter Songs on November 3 in North America. The album will also come with a 24-page color booklet and will be out in Britain and Europe on November 9. German fans will have to wait until November 13 for it.

A preview of the record (as well as a video clip) is available through the website for Halford's Metal God Shop webstore with two singles also available for purchase: "We Three Kings" and "Get Into The Spirit."

"Well, I've always said I wanted to produce a Christmas CD," Halford says. "The Halford band has assembled a fantastic release, and we're excited to have produced a collection of holiday tracks which all of us have enjoyed from a very early age."

Other songs on the album include "O Come O Come Emanuel," "Winter Song," "When Christmas Comes For Everyone," "Light Of The World," "What Child Is This" and "O Holy Night."

Halford's band for the record includes guitarists Roy Z and "Metal" Mike Chlasciak, drummer Bobby Jarzombek and bassist Mike Davis.

The record is Halford's first solo album since 2002's Crucible.

Judas Priest spent a portion of 2009 on the road while celebrating the 30th anniversary of 1980's British Steel by performing it in its entirety. The group also released a new live album, A Touch Of Evil: Live, which was culled from their 2005 and 2008 world tours

Ihsahn - New Album Tracklist And Release Date Revealed, Song Online

Original news, posted on 31.10.2009

Official press release

Candlelight Records/Mnemosyne Productions today confirmed 25th of January as the European release date for After, and the 26th of January in America the new album from former Emperor vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn. Recorded during the first half of 2009, After completes the musician's planned trilogy of initial recordings. The album showcases the Norwegian icon with drummer Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect), bassist Lars K. Norberg (Spiral Architect), & saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby (Shining).

"This is my first album written with 8-string guitars as basis which has been both challenging and inspiring," he comments when discussing the creative process. "I also decided early on that I wanted to mix this album with Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia) and recorded the album with that in mind. Asgeir and Lars have again delivered superb performances. I've always wanted to implement the saxophone in my music; Jorgen's contributions truly added a silver lining to the album."

Again working at his own Symphonique Studio, with additional work at Toproom Studio (co-engineered by Borge Finstad), After was meticulously laid out over an eight month period. The intensity of the project has more than paid off with early listenings already proclaiming it to be the most poignant creations of his solo efforts. "I have felt more confident and more at ease with the material," relays Ihsahn. "In letting the songs themselves lead the way I just followed the natural impulses."

After the demise of Emperor in 2001, Ihsahn continued his work with Peccatum, the band he formed in 1998 with life-partner Ihriel (Heidi Solberg Tveitan). After the release of 2005's mini-album, The Moribund People, his first writings of solo material began. Ihsahn's first recording, The Adversary, found the musician composing and performing all instruments and immediately struck a chord with his hordes of fans worldwide. The album afforded Ihsahn the opportunity to embrace more expansive sonic textures previously untouched in Emperor. The album also saw a return of his various lyrical muses. "Icaros, Lucifer, Prometheus, Zarathustra are all persons of history who challenged commonly accepted, most often enforced "truths," despite civilization's persecution of them and their followers," he comments. "Their stories are inspirational. AngL would follow in 2008. Metal Maniacs said, "whereas The Adversary was a sonic coping mechanism - all aspects of the album were tightly controlled - AngL finds the visionary widening and deepening the canvas." Decibel Magazine called the album, "as compelling as Emperor's best; Ihsahn sounds as fresh as he did fifteen years ago, but with the hindsight of a grown man." AngL featured a musical collaboration with Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt for the song "The Unhealer."

Ex Deo have officially pulled out of some dates on the Ensiferum tour for visa matters beyond the band's control.

Commented Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm): "Well the Gods are definitely not smiling on us at the moment. Some confusion happened in the visa department for a couple guys in our camp and by the time it will be solved, the tour will be too far in for us to join it and financially it would be a disaster. The good news is we will be doing the last week of shows from Chicago to New York. We're planning some Ex Deo stuff next year in America at the moment. We've lots of supporters that will be disappointed if it doesn't happen so we'll try our best to make it up next year."

Slayer - Canadian Carnage Tour With Megadeth Postponed

It is with great regret that Slayer announces the postponement of its "Canadian Carnage" tour with Megadeth (and also featuring Machine Head and Suicide Silence) which was due to begin on November 8. In addition, the band announces the postponement of its appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," which had been set for this Wednesday, November 4. More information will be released shortly regarding the rescheduling of the Canadian dates, as well as the "Kimmel" appearance.

Slayer's Tom Araya is currently under the care of a specialist for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity, and the physician has ordered an immediate surgical procedure to take place in Texas tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

"What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom does whatever he needs to to get this taken care of," said Slayer's Kerry King. "While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon."

Slayer's Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo are looking forward to meeting their fans at a previously announced in-store appearance this Wednesday, November 4 at 3:30PM at the Hot Topic store located at the Hollywood and Highland complex.

Slayer's World Painted Blood will be released tomorrow, November 3.

Morbid Carnage - Sign With Pulverised Records

Pulverised Records welcomes the latest old-school thrash addition to the roster: Hungarian thrashers Morbid Carnage.

Morbid Carnage recently completed their first full-length album Night Assassins, seven tracks of raw, intense and catchy thrash metal in the worship of the 80s golden years.

The street release date for Night Assassins will be announced soon.

Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin states: "Morbid Carnage definitely know their thrash metal; all the necessary ingredients to make a good old-fashioned thrash song work effectively and the overall vibe on Night Assassins is just totally immense. This is a straight-forward, no-holds-barred pure onslaught of retro-thrash at its finest!"

Comments Morbid Carnage's bass player Janos Horvath (aka Necrofaust): "It is our honour to be signed to Pulverised Records as the label has really some great bands and most importantly, a very positive attitude. We are sure that Pulverised Records will spread our first full-length album (recorded in the summer of this year) to the old-school souls of ripping thrash metal maniacs around the world!"

Two brand new songs entitled "Warlust" and "Night Assassins", taken off from the debut full-length album Night Assassins, can be heard on Morbid Carnage's official MySpace page.

Godflesh - Reunion Show At Hellfest Confirmed

Earache has confirmed that industrial metal pioneers Godflesh will reunite for what is most likely to be a special one-off show at next year's Hellfest Open Air. Previous bands that have reunited to perform at France's most famous metal event include Carcass and Amebix.

Godflesh formed after Justin K Broadrick left Napalm Death in order to pursue a different musical direction. After 6 LPs and a number of very well received EPs, the band decided to call it quits. JKB later went on to form the currently well known shoegaze-metal band Jesu. There are currently no reports that this reunion will result in more than just a special one-off show. The Hellfest staff are expected to confirm Godflesh as part of the festival's line-up shortly.

Revolution Renaissance - Ex-Hammerfall Bassist Joins The Band

Magnus Rosén (ex-Hammerfall, ex-Jorn, X-World/5) is the new bass player of Revolution Renaissance. The band is currently writing new material for a 2010 release.

A few weeks ago, Revolution Renaissance signed a 3-album deal with Napalm Records. With their strong promotional capabilities and a separate office in the USA, the band is expecting to get much better exposure than with the Age of Aquarius album and also finally do touring.

In the meantime Revolution Renaissance also parted ways with bass player Justin Biggs and the keyboard player Michael Khalilov. According to the band: "During the recordings of Age of Aquarius it became evident to everybody that RR was not the right band for the guys. Justin is more of a thrash guy and Mike expected the music to be something totally different. Out of these reasons the decision has been made that it is better to go separate ways. Both are great guys and the remaining members Timo Tolkki, Gus Monsanto and Bruno Agra wish them well and best of luck on their musical endeavours."

Soilwork - To Enter Studio In January

Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren has issued the following statement:

"It's official: Soilwork will enter the studio in January 2010! The long-awaited follow-up to 2007's Sworn To A Great Divide will be produced by guitarist Peter Wichers and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Bloodbath). Drums will be tracked at Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC. The rest of the recording is set to take place in Tampa, FL and the mix at Fascination Street in Orebro, Sweden.

Soilwork's as-yet-untitled eighth album will be the first to feature Peter Wichers since his return to the band in 2008, as well as the studio debut with guitarist Sylvain Coudret (Scarve) who also joined last year.

On another note, Listenable Records recently re-released the classic Soilwork albums Steelbath Suicide and The Chainheart Machine. Fully remastered by the band's long-time sound engineer Mattias Nilsson, with updated artwork and liner notes by BWBK's Carl Begai, these re-releases come in Super Jewelcases and each feature two rare or previously unreleased 1999 live bonus tracks."

Trees Of Eternity - New Project Of Swallow The Sun Guitarist

Trees Of Eternity came into being when Juha Raivio (Swallow The Sun) and Sweden based singer Aleah got together in the latter part of 2008 to work on a song for the upcoming Swallow The Sun album New Moon. The plan was to to feature Aleah's vocals on part of a song already prepared by Juha, but when they instead began to experiment with a vocal line Aleah had written for the occasion the session quickly headed off in a new direction and the project took on a life on its own.

During summer and autumn 2009 the band worked on completing the demo productions for a four song promo, now available for listening on the band's MySpace page.

01. My Requiem
02. Black Ocean
03. A Million Tears
04. Sinking Ships

While label negotiations take place, work on songs for the album will continue, and samples will be added to this page as work progresses.

The full line-up for the final version of Trees Of Eternity is not yet in place, but so far plans are to include Tobias Sidegård (Necrophobic) on bass and Mike Hellmaker (Maleficio) as second guitarist. Current drums are programmed only for demo purposes!
