Slayer - Christ Illusion Banned In India

Mumbai-based EMI Virgin India Ltd said Friday (October 6) it will recall all copies of the new Slayer album "Christ Illusion" following protests by a Christian group, Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF).

Early this week, Joseph Dias, general secretary of CSF, issued a statement taking "strong exception" to the album's cover artwork, which he said depicts "Christ with a missing eye and amputated arms." He added, "we also condemn the track, 'Skeleton Christ' as the lyrics are an insult to Christianity." The CSF also sent a memorandum to Mumbai's police commissioner, adding that the album "will affect the sensibilities of the Muslims on the track 'Jihad' and secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."

Kaveri Khullar, marketing manager, EMI India said in an interview, "We met with the CSF and were apologetic while assuring them that all copies of the album would be pulled out. We have no plans of re-issuing it in any way."

The "Christ Illusion" album had been on the shelves for only a week. Khullar did not confirm the number of units released only stating, "There weren't too many that we launched anyway."

Dream Theater - Seek New Label/Recording New Album

Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy revealed during an appearance on October 6 on the "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM that the band has ended its longtime collaboration with Atco/EastWest Records/The Atlantic Group and is currently in talks with several labels about a possible new record deal.

In addition, the group has entered a New York City studio with engineer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Suicidal Tendencies, Marilyn Manson) to begin recording its follow-up to 2005's "Octavarium", tentatively due next April/May. A few excerpts from Portnoy's "Friday Night Rocks" interview follow:

On current label negotiations and new album recordings:

"We didn't wanna sit around waiting to close up the deal and deal with all the legal paperwork and all that, and have to wait until all that was done to start the record, so we booked the studio time ? we wanted to start the record ? so we started a month ago. But we've been meeting with lots of labels since we are here in New York , and I think we're probably days to weeks away from making a decision and making an announcement."

"We've done all of this pretty much on our own at this point. The labels thus far have? With the exception of our heyday 15 years ago, with 'Images and Words' and everything ? other than that, we've pretty much just built this thing on our own, so it'll be amazing to see what we can do with a little bit of support."

The whole interview can be found here.

Twisted Tower Dire - Vocalist Quits

American Heavy Metallers Twisted Tower Dire have posted the following at their official website:

"Our long time vocalist and friend Tony left the band last Friday. Because of some personal problems he's been having we asked him to take a break from the band and not do the string of shows we have lined-up throughout the fall. This was mainly out of concern for him and also because we thought it would stabilize the band. Tony told us he was quitting on the spot if we asked him take a break. So far, that is that. Right now we're not sure if there's any chance he will come back. Our thoughts are with him and his family. The conversation only lasted about an hour, but It was absolutely one of the worst things I've had to go through between friends. For the meantime TTD is playing out with Johnny Aune on vocals from the Raleigh metal band Viper. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/viper"

Twisted Tower Dire have lined up the following dates with Attacker, Deadly Blessing, Sacred Oath and Dantesco:

October
27 - Brooklyn, New York at The Hook
28 - Glouster City, New Jersey at The Pirates Den (with Motornature)
29 - Hoboken, New Jersey at Maxwell's (Deadly Blessing not on this bill)

Twisted Tower Dire's upcoming album "Netherworlds" is set for release on February 23rd 2007, through Remedy Records.

Opeth - Plans For South American Tour Cancelled

Sweden's Opeth has posted the following message on its official web site:

"Despite trying to come to South America numerous times, it is with regret that Opeth cannot get to South America this year. a proper headline show involves Opeth bringing a lot of equipment with them. New airline excess baggage rules mean that this equipment now has to be freighted and the costs of doing this did not make the tour financially viable. We will do our utmost to try and get to South America on the next album tour cycle."

Cattle Decapitation - New Tour Drummer

Cattle Decapitation announce a new headlining tour? and drummer Kevin Talley steps in

Pulling themselves out of yet another awkwardly sticky situation with drummers, Cattle Decapitation recruits long time drumming guru Kevin Talley (ex-Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira). Singer Travis Ryan shares his thoughts on the upcoming tour.

"We're very excited to not only finally do our own headlining tour, but also to get back out and deliver the tracks from our new "Karma.Bloody.Karma" album to the masses. The last thing we want to do right now is to stay home and not be out on the road! We're glad to have a seasoned guy like Kevin filling in. It will be a refreshing change to get someone in there that's as professional in his approach to touring as the rest of the guys in the band. See you soon!"

Not only will Kevin Talley be lending his talents to Cattle Decapitation, he will be pulling double duties each night and also fill in behind the throne for the Atlanta based DAATH, whom Talley recorded the drums for their Roadrunner Records debut due out in January of 2007. DAATH guitarist Eyal Levi comments:

"Playing with Kevin has always been a natural choice for us. He's been involved with the project for years now and not only is he one of the greatest metal drummers out there, but also one of our good friends. We're excited to have him in the band and we also extremely excited to be during our first proper US tour with the mighty Cattle Decapitation!"

The tour is a four week jaunt across North America officially kicking off in El Paso Texas, and ending in California in December. Meeting up with Cattle Decapitation and Daath will be Southern Lord recording artists Lair Of The Minotaur, and Rotten Records recording artists Dog Fashion Disco.

Masterplan - Uli Kusch Quits Band

Drummer Uli Kusch (ex-Helloween) has left Masterplan, the German melodic metal band he formed with guitarist Roland Grapow. An official announcement on the matter is expected shortly...

Masterplan recently began recording its third album ? the group's first without singer Jorn Lande, who announced his departure in early May. The band's final show with Lande took place on August 8 at Lokersefeesten in Belgium.

According to a statement released by Masterplan in May, Lande's exit was caused by increased "musical differences" between the vocalist and the rest of the band. During the songwriting process for the group's third album, it became increasingly apparent that the other members of the band had different visions and plans for the group's musical direction. While Jorn wanted Masterplan to follow a more melodic path, the rest of the band wanted to return to the metallic roots of their debut album.

Leng Tch'e - New Album Completed

Belgian grind act Leng Tch'e have completed work on their upcoming full length entitled "Marasmus". The album was recorded at CCR Studios and engineered in Gothenburg, Sweden with engineer Fredrik Nordstrom. The record is due out in March 2007.

Drummer Sven De Caluwe says: "It took us quite some time and a lot of hardships to get everything the way we wanted but we're done with recording the new LT album and it was definitely all worth it. "Marasmus" is definitely the most interesting & heavy sounding record we've made so far. It goes from heavy to groovy to plain ridiculously fast, so there's a little bit for everyone on this one. We can't wait to have this out there for you maniacs to get a hold on to!! Expect nothing but razorgrind in it's most extreme and diverse form!"

The band also recently released a split LP with France's Warscars released on Bones Brigade Records which featured eight new tracks. For more info and ordering go to http://www.razorgrind.com. Two songs from the album are available on the official website or on http://www.myspace.com/lengtche.
