Hydrogyn - First Album Out Now

In September 2003, West Virginia guitarists Jeff Boggs and Jeff Westlake began work on a new experiment, a compelling modern heavy rock tour de force like no other on the scene an outfit designed to destroy musical and industry barriers.

Jeff Westlake on the blueprints behind HYDROGYN, "We wanted something a broad audience could love but also be something special. Something that stood out."

Fortified with cutting edge riffs, intelligent lyrics and massive hooks delivered by Julie (just Julie), a stunning front lady with a multi-octave range, the result is a formula set to conquer everything from Alternative Rock to Modern Hard Rock to Classic Metal without sacrificing credibility.

After leaving the studio In August, the band is set to headline the second stage at the popular Xfest in West Virginia, put on by Clear Channel station WMAX. Other bands on the bill include the Gold selling Seether.

Big press followed, with the band featured in MIX Magazine, Prosound News, Metal Maniacs Online, Blabbermouth.net, This Is Rock (Spain) and other prominent web and print publications.

Expect 2006 to be the year HYDROGYN explodes into the stratosphere (the album will be out in France via Underclass Records the 27th of September).

HYDROGYN is built to explode!

Bruce Dickinson - Barely Avoids The Aero Grand Prix Plane Crash

The singer of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden has a well-known interest in flying. Bruce Dickinson is an experienced pilot and he has flewn fans between different cities in big aircrafts.

At the competition Aero Grand Prix at Malta, the organizers had hired Dickinson to have his name on the posters. His mission was to comment the races when they were in progress in his own two-seated plane. Afterwards he was supposed to "spend some time with the fans", as the organizers have written on the homepage of the competition.

But instead of a spectacular show, Bruce Dickinson had to witness a tradegy when Eddie Goggins and Gabor Vargas collided with their planes. "His plane was just behind, he couldn't have been more than 50 meters away", says Matthew Mirabelli.

Bruce Dickinson wasn't hurt, despite the short distance to the accident.

Iron Maiden - The Annual Xmas Card Competition Launched

Iron Maiden have posted the following call-to-arms on their homepage:

"You folks know the drill by now...

The last few years we've thrown the design of the official Iron Maiden Xmas card open to you guys. This is the card that gets sent to FC members, to friends of the band... and to the last minute people we realise we've forgotten Each year, the standard has been amazingly high and we've had a real challenge agreeing on a winner.

So, we'd like you guys to do it again. Send us your designs - conforming to the specs below - and the winner will be picked by Rod, be printed and sent to loads of people. The winner will get a credit on the card and a big bag of groovy Iron Maiden stuff.

Your design needs to be A5 size (about 21 by 15 cm) - it's up to you which way round it goes (portrait or landscape). The picture is entirely up to you.

Now here's the important stuff - as the design will be printed, you need to make sure you have a high-resolution image that you can send us if we choose your card. If you're hand painting or drawing, no problem, but if you're creating your design from scratch in Photoshop or whatever, please make sure you do it at 600dpi and not at the lower resolution you'd use for things that are going to be displayed only on a monitor. Keep the original in a very safe place, and send us a copy."

Details of sending can be checked via Maiden's homepage.

Thunderstone - Working On New Album, Studio Update

Thunderstone are currently working on their fourth studio album at Sonic Pump Studios. Guitarist/producer Nino Laurenne has issued the following update:

"Well, here we are: starting the sessions for Thunderstone's fourth album. And like before, at this point there's no pressure at all, so the atmosphere and the feeling overall is almost bursting through the roof, which is, btw four meters high in the new Sonic Pump Studios! One thing that makes me very enthusiastic to start the recordings is that I've been working over a year in my new studio with several other bands and I know that the place is perfect for music production.

So everything seems to be just perfect...so far :-)

Saturday morning we started to build up the mics around Mirka's drum kit. This time I wanted to hire a professional engineer to record the drums because I wanted to concentrate 110% on producing. And the perfect guy for this job was Jesse Vainio, who actually is more known for making albums with gold/platinum selling mainstream artists in Finland. Since Mirka was working at his day job until 3pm, we started to set up the sounds etc etc. It took around three hours and the whole kit was miked and the overall sound was ok. And of course the final tuning had to happen with Mirka, since he hits like 1000 times harder than me:-))

Also one major thing that we did differently this time is that we used a 16 track 2 inch analog tape recorder. There IS something magical with the analog sound.

Mainly the whole drum session went pretty easily and we were having a great time. The drum sound is probably the best I've ever recorded so far, so I'm really happy and anxious to start play guitars next. We recorded 11 songs + 2 cover songs that I am not going to tell what they are:-)) All I can say that the other one will be quite a surprise. Let's see what our label will say about that;-)

That's all for now. I will write again after the rhythm guitars and the bass are done."

-Nino-

Thunderstone will play ProgPower in Atlanta, GA on September 16th.

Immortal - Abbath's I Project Final Album Details And Photos

I, the new band featuring Abbath (Immortal), Ice Dale (Enslaved, Audrey Horne), TC King (Sahg, ex-Gorgototh) and Armagedda (ex-Immortal), has finalized the track listing for its debut album, "Between Two Worlds", due for release in North America on November 14 via Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded in Bergen, Norway's Lydriket Studio with Geir Luedy, and mixed by Peter Tägtgren (Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Marduk), "Between Two Worlds" "will kick your teeth in and break your back!" according to the band. "Heavy, groovy, melodic, atmospheric, heck ? call it even catchy ? THIS ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE!"

"Between Two Worlds" track listing:

01. The Storm I Ride
02. Warriors
03. Between Two Worlds
04. Battalions
05. Mountains
06. Days of North Winds
07. Far Beyond the Quiet
08. Cursed We Are

There will also be a limited-edition version of the album with two bonus tracks: "Bridges of Fire" and "Shadowed Realms".

Download a radio-broadcast-quality (not CD quality) version of the song "The Storm I Ride" at this location.

Decibel magazine had this to say about "Between Two Worlds": "Everything about the debut album from Norway's I screams black metal, excepting the death 'n' roll guitar riffs that pervade throughout. Abbath has managed to fuse his signature snarl with MOTÖRHEAD-styled rock and Demonaz's BATHORY-influenced lyrics in a way no band has previously attempted. IMMORTAL fans will surely embrace the band, as will extreme music newcomers that don't know the band members' history. This is a worthy new start for these scene mainstays."

Check out new promotional photos at this location.
Pictures from the band's appearance last month at the Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen, Norway can be found here.

Machine Head - Studio Update Posted

Machine Head guitarist Robert Flynn has posted the following studio update on the band's official website:

"WOO - HOO!! We have guitar tone!!! And I'm not talking your average chugga-chugga metal tone, I'm talking face-peeling, ear-shredding savagery... fuck yeah!!! Hetfield eat your heart out! Woo-hoo! Can't wait to get tracking on some tunes tomorrow.

This last week we did some Duce and Demmel scratch tracks for reference when Adam and I sing... I threw on some vocals, some of which may or may not be keepers... had Adam come in for vocals and harmonies and MAN, he is sounding KILLER, we may have some keepers even though they were just for practice. We took a couple days off for the holiday too, drank a bunch'a beers, it was nice, cleared the head".

Also, Machine Head have posted some photos of them during the recording sessions in Sharkbite studios. Click here to view them. The band has also said that they will be posting video footage of themselves in the studio soon.
