Vektor - Writing New Material

US Thrashers Vektor are in writing mode for a yet untitled album tentatively penciled in for a 2011 March/April release. The band states:

"Our main focus right now is writing for the next album (while two of us finally get school out of the way in December). We're working hard with new material and a lot of it is coming out awesome so far. Once it gets tightened up, tweaked, and finalized, our aim is to get in the studio some time in the winter. Probably early 2011, putting the album out around March or April. Don't hold us to that, it's just an estimate. Might be earlier, might be later.

After that we head to Europe for Keep it True and a few weeks of shows out there (TBD), then probably some VERY extensive touring after that. Once school is out of the way we're going to go pretty all out as far as touring goes, and we hope to take it as far as we can. We do need all the help and support we can get from YOU though.

So since we are sort of in writing/rehearsing mode, don't expect a lot of major updates until November or December. But keep in touch! We can't wait for everyone to hear the new material and to see everyone out on tour again."

The full band update can be read here.

Forbidden - New Track Online

Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Forbidden have uploaded the track "Forsaken At The Gates" to their official MySpace page.

"'Forsaken At The Gates' is Forbidden's new thrash anthem for the 2010's and beyond," commented guitarist Craig Locicero. "If we could go back in a time machine to when we called it a day in 1997, there still would have been no way that we could have written 'Forsaken?" back then. We needed the distance and hind-site to write this record and had to get a grip on what the hell Forbidden was all about when we started. Our vision is clear. We are a Thrash Metal band! "Forsaken At The Gates" says it all.

If I were to compare "Forsaken At The Gates" to any of our old songs, it would be "March Into Fire", which was one of the first songs that I'd ever written in my life. Ironically, "Forsaken..." was the last song we'd written for Omega Wave. Funny how things work.

As far as the song itself, Mark was a fucking beast when we tracked it! I knew we had a monster on the first take, great energy and sense of urgency in his performance. It made one hell of a spine to connect all of the other moving parts to. Everyone blasted through their tracks with the same sense of urgency too. Playing those riffs, my blood pumps harder then in any other song I've played on. It was an intense session to track and Matt cruises through the entire thing like a bulldozer! The solo section brings me back to the good 'ol days when trade-offs were all over the classic metal records we all love. I really love playing and writing with Steve, he makes me so much better and I think we make a great team.

After that, it's Russ that's next fucking level! Tim and I got him fired up and locked him behind the glass until he sounded as crazed as they lyrics are intended to convey. The song itself is about turning away the masses from the numerous underground shelters around the planet that will try to seek protection from any natural or unnatural disaster that would effect all of us on the surface. The main line of the song says 'Corpses laid out for the Rapture, New World Order buried in it's tomb.' In other words, if the surface isn't worth living on and the powers that be decide who lives in a canned air bunker for future generations to come...let them rot down there, that's not a world worth living in!"

Vocalist Russ Anderson added: "Looking back on recording our first album Forbidden Evil and recording Omega Wave, there really is no comparison. During the recording of Forbidden Evil, we were in a time crunch and I sang the whole album in about one and a half days, impossible some could say, but true. I was happy with the results because that gave the album it's rawness, that in my opinion goes down in history as true as a thrash album gets.

Unearth - Original Bass Player Dies In Scooter Crash

In case you haven't heard, last week original Unearth bass player Chris "Rover" Rybicki passed away. He lost his life from injuries sustained four weeks ago at the hands of an alleged drunk driver. The article reporting the incident can be read here.

Added the band: "Rover hadn't been in Unearth since 2001, but he remained a good friend to us all throughout the years and this tragedy has hit us hard.

Not only was Rover a talented musician, but he was also one of the funniest dudes you would ever know. His wit, dark humor and don't give a fuck attitude made him a unique person that we all loved having in our lives. His memory will live on amongst his family and friends with the countless stories of Rover being Rover. He will be sorely and forever missed.

Rover played on our our EP Above the Fall of Man, our debut full length The Stings of Conscience and also on two tracks off our 2002 EP Endless. We would like to take a second to urge people to not drink and drive. Please be responsible so these tragedies stop happening."

God Dethroned - New Album Details Revealed

Dutch Death Metallers God Dethroned recently finished the recordings for their sophomore new album Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross. The band's 9th album has been recorded at Soundlodge Studios in Leer, Germany.

Comments singer/guitarist Henri Sattler: "Just like with our two previous albums, we've been recording at the Soundlodge Studio's in Leer, Germany with producer Joerg Uken. Under the Sign of the Iron Cross is another concept album about World War One. Having done a concept album about this topic before didn't make it an easy job, but reading Ernst Juenger's "In Stahlgewittern" (Storm of Steel), which is his biography of his daily experiences in the trenches during the war, gave me so much inspiration that I managed to do a good job on the lyrics and I'm really satisfied with the result, but this is of course something you will have to check out for yourselves.

Musically the new album turned out to be one of the most extreme records we ever did. Nevertheless with the very recognizable God Dethroned hooks present in all the songs. Producer Joerg Uken outdid himself this time, because our new album is in my opinion the best produced album we ever had. Extremely raw, heavy, but crystal clear and super dynamic at the same time."

Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross will be released the 19th/22nd of November 2010 via Metal Blade Records in Europe and on the 23rd of November in North America.

Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross cover art] tracklist:

01. The Declaration Of War
02. Storm Of Steel
03. Fire Storm
04. The Killing Is Faceless
05. Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross
06. Chaos Reigns At Dawn
07. Through Byzantine Hemispheres
08. The Red Baron
09. On Fields Of Death & Desolation

Obscura - Unveil New Album Title

Progressive death metal act Obscura has unveiled the name of their forthcoming full-length as Omnivium.

Omnivium was recently recorded and now being mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress). The nine-track album will see an early 2011 release date. Additional album details will be made available shortly.

Obscura's Steffen Kummerer issued the following update from the studio: "Although we recorded again with our long time friend and producer V. Santura in the Woodshed Studios, the studio sessions were hard work and lots of sweat. It was for the best though since Omnivium is definitely the next step for this band."

Christian (Muenzer - guitar) recorded some outstanding solos with a new 8 finger tapping technique, Jeroen (Paul Thesseling - bass) brought his own stamp of fretless tone into the mix again, and Hannes (Grossmann - drums) recorded his heaviest session to date and broke through the 260 bpm line. Everyone brought lots of great ideas to the table and made Omnivium a truly collaborative band effort. Omnivium sounds solely like Obscura, and brings us a step closer to reaching our unique vision of progressive death metal."

Metal Storm - The Demo Spotlight

Hey all!

Just a quick message to inform you we've got a new type of article floating around, currently going by the name "Clandestine Cuts #1". You can find it here.

As you can read in the introductory statement of the article, we felt that the demos of unknown metal bands (a.k.a. the future of metal) definitely deserve attention - but maybe not as much as the big shots of the metal scene (yet). So we gave them their own place, the Demo Spotlight, where we describe the music, share MySpace links and show the cover art.

We hope you like the article (check it here!), because we plan on writing many more! As this is the first of a series, we still might decide to fine-tune it a bit in upcoming editions and suggestions are always welcome! Post a comment or send a PM to a Staff member to share your thoughts.

Enjoy the read on your hungover, lazy sunday afternoon!
