Torture Killer - Part Ways With Vocalist, Seek Replacement

Finnish metallers Torture Killer have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"Our cooperation with our vocalist Juri has ended. We thank him for the past years, all the shows we've played together and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Like any band member would know, there's more to being in a band than just performing on stage. With these other things, we have had constant difficulties meeting each other eye-to-eye and these issues we have not been able to resolve. This has once again put us in a situation where we need to evaluate our line-up and where we stand with the band. This decision is very unpleasant, but regardless of that, necessary and the right one.

Because of this we are now looking for a new death metal vocalist. We hope you live in Western- or Southern part of Finland, and/or you are capable of coming to Turku
whenever needed. Contact us via: serialtorturekiller gmail com

"We wish your "application" would include the following info:

- a sample of your voice (old-school style - yes / doggy,-fart,-piggystyle - no).
- a short bio about yourself.
- bandhistory (your ex/active bands, if there's any).
- a short note about your studio & live-experiences (if there's any).
- youtube / other links to give us a hint about your stage presence (if there's any).

We've been under these circumstances before and even if these situations have always been annoying & unpleasant, we've always managed to come back stronger and stand straight again. And so it shall be, again!"

Elvenking - Drummer Quits

After 12 years with the band, drummer Zender had left Elvenking. The band commented:

"We had a wonderful journey with Zender in these long 12 years. Thinking about where we started together back in the time and what we have achieved along the path it really looks incredible. We were a bunch of kids when we started together with nothing but a dream, and now we are here. We cannot feel anything but proud and we are sure Zender feels exactly the same. Being in a band like Elvenking it is not the easiest thing in the world, since you are not that big to live out of your passion, but you're big enough to have a lot of stress, busy days, lots of things to do and manage, long travels, flights, etc etc. The split has been in total friendship and with no bad blood at all. Zender came to visit the band in the rehearsal room also the other day to share some words and drinks together. All Elvenking members, crew and friends wish Zender all the best possible for his future and we're sure our roads will cross again sooner or later"

"The ones of you who have seen Elvenking live during the Tides Over Europe tour dates have already known and experienced a new strange and mysterious character on drums, named Symohn. He is sitting behind the drumkit for all next live dates so you need to check his ability behind the kit out on the next gigs! Be sure to not miss 'em!"

Exumer - New Album Details

German thrash metal veterans Exumer have issued the following update on their Myspace blog:

"We will be recording and mixing our first album release in 24 years, in Dortmund/Germany over the summer. We have recruited legendary producer, Waldemar Sorychta (Grip Inc., Enemy Of The Sun, Voodoocult, Therion, Tiamat, Moonspell etc.), to produce what will be the third Exumer album to date. We will enter the studio in early June and remain there throughout July to complete the recording/mixing process. We have commissioned Baptiste Treton, a French born artist who resides in Vietnam, to illustrate the new album's artwork."

Vocalist Mem commented: "We basically took off from playing live for this entire year in order to concentrate solely on writing, recording and mixing this record. Waldemar was the most logical choice for us in regards to producing this very important album. We heard what he had done with the last Sodom album and we all agreed that he is capable of preserving the spirit of a 1980s thrash band but still make them sound relevant today. That is exactly what we envision for Exumer. We became quite confident that we will achieve this objective after meeting Waldemar earlier this year and trust his intuition as a producer, songwriter and musician, as well as his ability to push Exumer's envelope when it is necessary."

The band added: "We began negotiating with several labels to release their upcoming CD and will announce the album's title once a deal is closed."

Criminal - Begin Recording New Album

Official press release

Yesterday thrash masters Criminal - originally formed in Chile and now based in the UK - entered bassist Dan Biggin's HVR Recording Studios in Suffolk, UK to record their seventh studio album, the first since the departure of guitarist / founding member Rodrigo Contreras and the subsequent addition of Basque guitar wizard Olmo Cascallar.

"The way we're approaching the drums this time around is to focus a lot on the set-up of the sounds before we record", explains drummer Zac O'Neil. "I think in the past we've been too quick to start tracking without thinking too much about the raw audio. I'm very keen to move in a different direction from the way that metal is going with sampled and edited drums, and go back to the way that metal used to be before all this electronic trickery. Hopefully we'll retain the dynamics and raw energy that just isn't present in many productions nowadays.

I've also been concentrating on pre-production arrangements for the drum tracks. I want to make sure that what I play complements the songs and is not too busy or complicated for the sake of it.

I'm really looking forward to how this next Criminal album will turn out. Hopefully we'll also get some nice tracking footage as well for the fans to see just how we did it."

The as-yet-untitled album, the follow-up to the acclaimed White Hell (2009), will be released in August 2011 by Massacre Records.

Meliah Rage - Working On New Album

US power thrash metal band Meliah Rage are currently working on new material for their next album.

The band issued the following update on MySpace: "It's been quite some months since we updated this page, so it's time to catch up with things and tell you what's been going on in the Meliah camp recently.

First of all, vocalist Paul Souza has returned to the band to record our new full-length CD as well as our first-ever cover song, "Halo of Flies" (originally on Alice Cooper's 1971 classic Killer LP). The song will be a bonus track on the soon to be re-released remix of 2004's "Barley Human" (that will be officially called "Barely Human Remix").

Our original singer Mike Munro has become very dedicated to his church and recently spent time volunteering in Haiti - he felt these and other missions of goodwill would not allow him the flexibility of schedule to tour with Meliah Rage.

We feel very fortunate that we have the ability to work with Paul again, complete this CD and play some shows. Souza was the singer when we toured with Metal Church across the U.S. in 2007.

Our next album will be called Dead To The World and is slated for a July release (the label to put it out will be announced very soon). It will coincide with our (first in 21 years) visit in Europe: we'll play at the Headbangers Open Air festival in Germany on July 29th. We're currently looking for other shows possibilities too.

As far as the new album is concerned: we've already tracked all instruments and we're very excited about how things are progressing. All that remains now are the vocals!"

Communic - New Album Details

Official press release

The Norwegian metallers from Communic are back with their new album The Bottom Deep which is simply breath-taking! The music of the exceptional band from Norway includes many elements from various metal genres. Their grasp for variety of power, melody, and intelligent lyrics with a highly progressive musical approach made Communic one of the best newcomers for years! If you like progressiv metal, there is no way without Communic!

Now, the band announced the tracklist and the artwork of the upcoming album:

01. Facing Tomorrow
02. Denial
03. Flood River Blood
04. Voyage Of Discovery
05. In Silence With My Scars
06. My Fallen
07. Destroyer Of Bloodlines
08. Wayward Soul
09. The Bottom Deep
10. Bonus Track: In Union We Stand

Guitarist and band mastermind Oddleif Stensland commented the new stuff: "Writing and recording this album has been an amazing - but strange experience. This time we took control over the production ourself, resulting in a more honest and organic sounding album. Never before have I put so much of my own personal influence and privacy into the lyrics and songs as this time. Right now I have a mixed feeling of fear and total excitement as we release the artwork and track listing for this new album. Now there is no return. To open myself this way, exposing my deepest and inner thoughts, in a way I have never done before. Its kinda strange, as it feels like these words and songs came from a part of me that I didn't know about. This is The Bottom Deep. This is the album that I never in my life thought I had to write - but now I know, this will be a totem in my life - forever!"

Dan Swanö did the mastering on this album, he said: "It was pure pleasure to work with these guys. The mix was excellent to start with, so I finally had the opportunity to work with gentle strokes rather than the big roller that I sometimes have to use to shape-up not-so-good mixes. Musically I enjoyed it very much. It's not easy to label their music (which is good). If I had to mention something, I get that amazing "epic" vibe of Queensrÿche 84-88. They definitely add something to the family of progressive metal"

Eliran Kantor made the artwork for the album: "The first draft of the lyrics from Oddleif made it clear that this is going to be a very personal, dark and vulnerable record - and I wanted the cover to reflect that. The vulture, nature's version of the grim reaper, caresses the dying man, casting a shadow reveling its true intentions and reason for this last visit. I put alot of myself into this artwork, and I think it turned out great"
