You can go jump because this list is from 2000 - 2009 and AEO was released 2010

hahaha, good call, I'll pay that. Attention to detail lacking.

Erosion has a sound of their own to it whereas Faemin is a bit too much Cult Of Luna worship.

So much better it's not even funny. I still enjoy Faemin though but the difference is big.

Basically: A tad less sludge and more doom... the amount of post is unchanged and in my opinion it's used more tastefully. The songwriting itself is far more complex which makes it a more interesting release but still accessible. I have a hard time thinking how you wouldn't like it... let alone giving it a chance at the very least. Why don't you read Marcel's review? It sums it up well enough and states the fact that it's an unique album which I sadly can't say about the next one.

So yeah... go for it.

I stumbled across this list when I checked the thread about Warning. I glanced over it, nodded over most of your choices (I've known your taste for almost 10 years now ), but I couldn't help noticing a few albums that are missing.
1. Weakling 'Dead As Dreams'. I'm sure you spoke higly of it on numerous occasions.
2. Drudkh - not a single album from one of the best black metal bands of the 00's? I'm sure the first two are good enough?
3. Ahab 'Call of the Wretched Sea'. One of the best doom albums ever not on your list?

Just wondering.

Weakling's Dead As Dreams is good but nothing more. I think you're confusing me with Jupitreas on this one. He wets his pants over this album whereas I never understood the praise it was and sill is getting from various corners.

As for Drudkh only Autmun Aurora could be on this list. But somehow decided against it.

Although Call Of The Wretched Sea is a good doom album I wouldn't rate it as one of the best doom albums ever. It won't even break the top 50 of best doom albums ever for me.

okay it is clear you missed the meaning of the title The Naughties is a spelling play on words on The Noughties which is how lots of people call the decade spannign 2000-2010

So it is impossible to make a list of the Nineties with the Naughties in the title

Oh, I finally found out what "Naughties" means here, well it always passed my mind why would you choose such word for this list, so I know the reason now, heh great, maybe it sounds weird to you but I never heard that word up to now. Good job on spelling play and the word choice.

Oh damn, I thought they called it The Naughties, not The Noughties. Because people were naughty in that decade or something... I don't know, Santa didn't bring me many gifts either.
It's only now that I see the link between noughties and nought...

I've only heard about half of these albums. But Marcel won't create another list, because he said he hates (creating) lists. The problem isn't maintaining them though, because he hasn't updated this one not even once I think. I would definitely be interested in seeing a similar list of the 90's, but not one of the 80's, simply because I rarely listen to music from before 1990.

I set out to listen to every album on here because I enjoyed pretty much all the ones I knew and now I'm done, though I don't remember much of most of the doom releases on here, since I'm not terribly interested in those, though they were all very far from bad. Too bad he's not making another one, It'd be interesting since his knowledge of metal is pretty vast. By the way, I wouldn't update a list like this either to be honest. It is what it is: a collection of the albums you enjoyed most in a certain decade. If I found one from that decade that I happened to enjoy more, I wouldn't start updating the list, I'd just limit it to the albums I listened to during that decade. (I won't update my 2014 list in 2015 for example, since I might start one for 2015 when the time arrives.)

I just noticed considerable lack of death metal in this compared to BM. Might as well be a good indicator of DM status between 2000 and 2010.

Indeed it is an indicator of the state of DM during that decade.

EDIT: looking at the list I can only fiond one DM release.

Yeah. Thankfully, post 2010 has offered better death metal in both old sounding and forward thinking categories.

Ok, it wasn't the best period for death metal but there were some very good releases.

Bolt Thrower -Those Once Loyal comes to mind

Also Krisiun, Vader, Vital Remains and Behemoth are 'big bands' with some very good albums.

Other examples:

Graveyard - One With The Dead
Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels
Carcariass - E-Xtinction
Undergang - Indhentet af Døden

At least it can be said that black metal and doom metal were much more thriving during that period.
Personally, I'd pick Gojira (if considered death metal), tooh, nile, bolt thrower, Lykate and The Amenta as bands which released the best death metal of the past decay.
