now this deserves to be at the top of the top 20, not that Helloween bullshit of an album.ç

Everyone is allowed to voice their opinion about music. It's literally the entire point of featuring a comment section dedicated to discussion.
If you think the site is a cancer, I'll do you the favor of giving you a time out. You can use it to think about the irony of your words with regards to respecting others here.

Nice album, this. not really my cuppa tea because it failed to resonate on an emotional level, maybe because of the language barrier... but i can appreciate the creativity and musicianship here.
If i ever get into the genre more, i'll certainly check it out again.

This was my first Thy Catafalque album and my experience so far has been a strange and strangely pleasantly surprising one. Upon first listen, "Vadak" fell firmly into the "meh" category, but already on the second listen, I admired many aspects of it. Also, some elements, the production in particular, are so good that I am actually jealous. It's a solid bet that a few more listens will put this album in my top 20 of the year.

I liked Naiv better. This one had a trite too much instrumental showing off. However the songwriting is still really strong. The melodies are palpable and memorable. The changes in the mood are fast yet justifiable. The closing song is true lullaby. Definitely deserves the top position it is holding right now.

Wow, this just got slammed with a bunch of 1-stars in the last few days and dropped about half dozen places.
Well, it is the time of the year for rating abuse to begin, so it comes as no surprise

yep. I make it a point each year around this time to keep a general eye on the albums that are near the top that then drop dramatically.
You check the ratings on the album, then you find the people that give a high-ranked album 1, 2, or 3.
You check each of those people and you'll see, Every. Single. Time. That they have 1 or 2 albums "in competition" for the top spot, so they give 10(s) to their favorite album(s) and then 1-star albums that are the compeition.
It's...silly...to say the least. But it happens to pretty much every one of the albums in the top 20
last year, it was (mostly) Paradise Lost fans that were trying to torpedo the other albums.
This year, it seems that (mostly) Colors II fans are making the attempt thus far.

Giving any album a 1 is ridiculous, except for certain ones; Like LuLu.

Your absolutely right, If any album deserves a 1 it's definitely LuLu, certainly not this.

Starting from Meta, i've been trying to listen and trying very hard to like this guy but I failed till Vadak released. And I am very happy that he is not trying to follow any single genre or style in every other album he comes out with and maybe that's the reason I am hooked up with Vadak. I am really in love with Vadak's versatility and new musical dimensions it has tried to explore. Classic.

I even gave Lulu a 2-star, simply because they made an effort to be unique. I haven't rated any album a 1-star, simply because every song would have to be pure shit, devoid of any attempt at artistic merit
Now, back to the masterpiece that is Vadak.
I loved Naiv, but Vadak tops it comfortably, and is in the running for my overall 2021 AotY

So far this is a worthy contender for AOTY, it's unique and shows great musicianship. The Avent-Garde style was always difficult for me to get into, but I am starting to appreciate it a bit more now, I am beginning to warm to Thy Catafalque, and Arcturus.

The last 3 albums are all only ok for me. Sometimes a song does something I'm liking, then it gets dragged out by a weird instrumental passage and I lose cohesion of the song.
I think my favourite part of this album is the chilled electronica ending to Móló.

I've given this a few listens now as so many are already calling this AOTY.
I'm really not sure about it. Sometimes the electronic passages sound great - almost like Sisters of Mercy, but other times it sounds like Euro trance cheese.
I applaud the invention but not sure it comes together as a cohesive project.

Yes I know I'm late, but it doesn't matter because this album is great!
Some songs change and/or end rather abruptly but there are so many different blends of ideas that work rather well most of the time. That may not exactly translate to a cohesive and consistent album overall but makes for a really interesting and memorable experience as each new song unfolds into whatever unexpected direction it will take. Everything sounds fresh and passionate, and the flow between such a variety of atmospheres was well executed. I haven't listened to any of his previous albums yet to compare Vadak to them, but on its own I really enjoyed it and look forward to going backwards through the older ones now.

It takes me quite a while to get around to listening to certain big releases these days. Finally got to this one, as I'm rarely in a hurry to obtain new releases from this act. Though I do eventually fall victim to the hype and buy in. And good god is this bad.
I know that there is no accounting for taste. This whole enterprise is subjective. And avantgarde acts really drive this home, as your mileage may vary greatly on them. But it's painful for me to listen to this. It alternates between passable chill sections, dull generic "metal" riffs, grating hysterical warbling vocals, dumb chants, sequences that sound distinctly like a parody of Enslaved, and so on. This is what an advanced AI would create if it were asked to produce an avantgarde black metal album. Just a haphazardly assembled pastiche of clichés. Not a worthwhile or cohesive track on the whole thing. But it has exactly the sort of "weird/eclectic" hipster energy that appeals to a subset of genre fans, which does still work as it was apparently a very successful album. More power to you, I guess.
Worst notable album of 2021 for me.
