Ronnie James Dio - Hologram World Tour Announced
After debuting at last year's Wacken festival in Germany, a hologram of late heavy-metal singer Ronnie James Dio will set out on a world tour, backed by musicians who played with him, this fall. The trek, dubbed "Dio Returns", will kick off with a European leg of performances in theaters on November 30th in Helsinki before hitting South America, Australia and Asia. The tour will arrive in the U.S. in the spring of 2018 and hit select festivals next summer.
The Dio estate has worked with hologram company Eyellusion so the singing specter could perform many of the late vocalist's hits, including "Holy Diver," "Rainbow In The Dark," "We Rock," "King Of Rock And Roll," Black Sabbath's "Neon Knights" and "Heaven And Hell" and Rainbow's "Man On The Silver Mountain," among others. The production uses audio of Dio's live performances from throughout his career with a live band backing him up in front of a stage set that hearkens back to the singer's Sacred Heart and Dream Evil tours. The hologram's set will differ from night to night, and audiences should expect to see the Dio Band also perform with vocalists Tim "Ripper" Owens and Oni Logan on select dates.
The Dio Band consists of guitarist Craig Goldy, drummer Simon Wright, keyboardist Scott Warren and bassist Bjorn Englen. The musicians have previously made appearances as the Dio Disciples. Goldy said that after showcasing at both Pollstar Live!, put on by a U.S. concert-industry trade magazine, and the International Live Music Conference in London, the band received multiple offers to perform.

Agree with the majority of opinions here. This is one of the most shameful and incredibly ridiculous ideas ever. I'm like Dio a lot but would never even consider the possibility of attending this, even if it was free. Also, I consider this to be a great lack of respect towards Dio, even more considering he's dead. What a way to ''honour'' him!

This is a twist on what a lot of old classic metal artists are doing, isn't it? Dio's career is still alive, while he himself is dead. Most bands from that era perform live, but their careers are dead. I am so fucking clever.

Great. People are paying to see the band playing instrumentals live and the recorded vocals of Dio + images with him when he was still alive. Folks, I have a solution... buy a Live DVD with him. It is both cost effective, and less time consuming.

Kind of difficult to not see this as an exploitation, even if Dio's wife is on board with this, Dio himself still can't have a say in it. Good of you to offer a different perspective on it though, if you do go, I hope you'll have a good time.

I'm going to do a lot of thinking about whether I should or should not go to the Tilbug concert. I've been to a Dio concert back in 2006, and I don't have any memories of it, nor any footage from that time. This will be a closure if I decide to go, but... it'd cost roughly 32 euros to hear instrumental covers of songs and to see a hologram of Dio. that sounds "a bit" pricey. Need to think about this one.
