Andorra is one of the smallest nations in the world. Lodged between Spain and France in the middle of the Pyrenees, it still holds enough talented musicians to bring to the world one of the most gifted metal bands of the last few years. If the name sounds familiar, it is because Persefone have made a name for themselves by releasing the album Core in 2006, a juggernaut of an album that still slays my psyche to this day. Its successor Shin-Ken was also a worthy experience in its own right. 2013 brings us Spiritual Migration.

Years ago, in my cousin's dingy basement, moments after our first cigarette, he played me those menacing notes unlike anything I'd heard before: heavy metal. It was glorious, I was hooked for life --on metal, thankfully, not smoking.

I'm a lifelong fan of music most find repulsive (part of its charm, like black licorice), yet it takes a lot to digest a metal album. Even for metalheads, they're intentionally complex, rarely "catchy," and with so many sub-genres to explore, things get overlooked. By chance I gave an album I liked (but moved on from) another go, and am sure glad I did. Nearly two years later it's grown to become, dare I say, my new favorite OF ALL TIME.

Not a fan of OG but i´m a huge fan of Insomnium, I tried some tracks of OG´s new album and I found nothing original just like Insomnium´s last album. However Persefone really made me surprised with this mind-blowing masterpiece...

I find it strange how many people really like Insomnium and not OG (or vice versa) as I personally think they are quite similar, I love both of them and they tie as my favourite melodeath band.
Anyway, I agree that OG's latest isn't very original, however I love it much like I love One For Sorrow, despite that being quite unoriginal as well.
Ah well, to each his own, I will keep listening to Spiritual Migration until I love it, which I am sure I will soon.;)

It's OK not to like something, you know! I highly doubt that I would be enjoying this as much as I do if I didn't already have a fond attachment to Shin-Ken and Core. It is with respect to those albums that I can judge this one, to be honest; in particular, the vocals have improved immensely to the point where they are actually a strong point for me, consistently, throughout the album.
That being said, Spiritual Migration is a great place to start, although I honestly think Shin-Ken might allow you to appreciate this one a little more. SM is a long album and the last few tracks are especially hard to stomach on the first listen (especially Returning to the Source's opening few minutes), so give it a little bit of time. There's so much music out there, so don't beat yourself up if you don't like this one. In fact, as I mentioned earlier, the grand majority of the Internet disagrees with Metal Storm's assessment of the album.

Between the Buried and Me + Wintersun = This Album.

Hyper-technical cosmic new-age feel good epicness and impressive shred.

OK to not like something here on MS?! Haha.
But I know what you mean, its just that I been trying to get into the heavier, darker, more progressive side of metal and melodeath is my favourite subgenre, and this band kind of bridges the two, so this would be a good starting place for me, besides I already enjoy the album somewhat, and if I enjoy something I tend to always enjoy it and eventually enjoy it more. (Except metalcore, can't stand it anymore.)

The two Meditations are keeping the very best part of the album : The Majestic Of Gaia, Consciousness (Pt. 1&2), Inner Fullness, I like that!

I must admit this is great album! This is first time I listen to Persefone and have to say this band is my biggest discovery for this year. Outstanding symphonic and single instruments arrangements and vocals. Much better than for example Fleshgod Apocalypse (which is also one of best in class).
I gave 9 instead of 10 as there are some rare boring moments on that album (to be honest) .

Definitely check out the rest of their stellar discography, especially Shin-Ken. If you like a very nice progressive sounding melo-death, I highly recommend Core as well. Most listeners regard Core as Persefone's best album, and I do admit that it doesn't have many boring moments in it.

"The Quaker"
It is almost as good as Core. The only thing I miss is the fluent composition (transitions), Carlos seems to separate the heavy from the mellow parts in such contrast that they don't give me the chills like on the early stuff.

Having given it a few more spins, my verdict is the album has some beef to it, but it is long for that amount of beef. Things start to get going from "The Majestic of Gaia" but are still mingled with a lot of superflous parts IMHO. Persefone are amazing musicians nevertheless, well, at least very capable.

Yeah, I guess the extent to which you'd enjoy the album depends on how superfluous you feel certain moments are. I personally think there are maybe two or three tracks below par, but the quality of even those tracks still brought my rating to a 9.

This is my first encounter with this band and i listened to their previous records too i think this their best hit because of the vocals and the composition they are superb musicians of course but in previous records vocals are on your nerve and some melody and riffs are not in the right place but this one is really good
