Guib's Top 100 Metal Songs (No Order)

Hello Folks!

Inspired by fellow Metal Stormer F3ynman, I've decided to make a list of what I consider to be the best metal songs for me. The small difference is that I will be listing 100 of them because I found 50 to be way too restrictive for my taste. Also, there will be no specific order to the list and no other sort of restriction other than the amount of songs. I will be updating this anytime I change my mind or discover something that slays more in my opinion.

Hope you'll enjoy, cheers!

Glad I inspired you! I counted three songs we have in common: "Angel of Death", "LCD", and "Tornado of Souls". But I saw plenty of others that I enjoy and were definitely in the running for my top list, like "Bleak", "The Beginning and the End", "Dead Embyonic Cells", "On The Shores of Ithaka", and "Forests of Legend".

Also cool to see O Zorn! make it on your list!

And by the way, Baroness showing up in your list made me suddenly remember a song that I hadn't listened to in a while: "Isak" from the Red Album. Not top 50 material, but still a really noteworthy song. I need to go revisit Baroness now...

I looooove Baroness, among my all time favorite bands and ''Isak'' is an amazing song and I could definitely see it be a top 50-100 contender. I think my favorite from Red Album though would have to be ''Wanderlust''. And yeah I love "New Suffer" by O Zorn!, since your review I played that song WAY too much lol.

As a sidenote concerning "On The Shores Of Ithaka", I consider this piece to be one of the best Technical Death song ever composed. That would be a hot take for a lot of people but hey!

Tbh I couldn't really get into Baroness. I've listened to their Red and Blue albums and liked some songs like "Isak" or "Wanderlust" (which I agree is great), but it didn't hook me enough to revisit often or continue along their discography. Same thing with The Ocean. Speaking of The Ocean, have you heard their song "Killing the Flies"? I was addicted to that song for some time when I first heard it.

"On The Shores of Ithaka" is amazing indeed. And pretty underrated, or, at least seemingly not so well known. In terms of tech death, I'd rank a lot of Nile songs above it still. But, I don't know many tech death bands other than Nile, so I'm also biased in that regard. Do you have any tech death bands you'd recommend? Or tech death songs from this list I should listen to?

So for The Ocean, yes I know that song from Aeolian. Can't say I was ever addicted to it but it's solid material like most material done by The Ocean really.

As for tech death bands I would recommend, there are tons, but I suggest you go through my tech/brutal/prog death List instead. As for tech-death songs from this specific list hell yes:

1. Decapitated - Spheres Of Madness
2. Anata - Better Grieved Than Fooled
3. Atheist - Mother Man
4. Spawn Of Possession - In My Own Greed
5. Necrophagist - Stabwound
6. Necrophagist - Only Ash Remains
7. The Zenith Passage - Algorithmic Salvation
8. Revocation - Conjuring The Cataclysm

Those are all amazing IMO but yeah, tech-death is an acquired taste and can be tough to get into. If you're looking for more melodic tech I suggest you listen to bands like Arsis, Inferi, Eternal Gray, Allegaeon, Vale Of Pnath or even Alustrium. Also perhaps Tech-Thrash or Progressive Death could be a good starting point.

Not gonna list anything from Death and Quo Vadis as I assume you've already explored that more than plenty.

Sweet! Of those bands you've listed, I've only heard some Atheist and Necrophagist at some point. But the rest is uncharted territory! I'll definitely also use your technicality list for exploring. Thanks a lot

Nice -- I find quite a few songs here that also made it into my Top (300 ) Songs Of All-Time list.
But dont you want to write the syntax in such a way that it links to the albums instead of the bands? Would make it much easier to scroll through the list, me thinks.

Hey Redel! In this specific case I want the focus more on the songs than albums, I'm even thinking of removing pictures altogether, they don't really serve any purpose here. Also, I've got most of those albums in other lists of mine, kinda gets redundant and heavy on the album pages too.

Fair point -- I kinda sensed you were coming from there. I'd suggest to indeed remove the pictures altogether then.

And it displays much better without the band profile pics I'd say.
That reference to Candlemass' Nightfall should date 1987 instead of 1993, right?
