My Top 60 Favourite Death Metal Albums (including melodeath and deathrash)

Thumbs up: +2
I know some of the albums are more thrash than death, but I added them anyway, because I guess they could appeal to death metal fans too. Many of the albums are not so well-known, but I prefer them over the classics. If you have any other suggestions of underground albums you think I could enjoy based on my choices, you can suggest me.

1. In Flames - Clayman
This was the first extreme metal I got into, so I have a special relation to it, but I still think it's the perfect combination with melodies and aggression. It is debatable if this could be accepted as death metal, though, and this is the last In Flames album I include on the list, although I love "Reroute To Remain" too.
2. The Crown - Eternal Death
Melodic, but not too melodic and not in a Gothenburg-vein. A fast album with a dark atmosphere without use of keyboards.
3. Sororicide - The Entity
A doomy death metal album from an underground icelandic band.
4. Pestilence - Malleus Maleficarum
Perhaps more thrash than death, but the death element is definitely present.
5. Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness
The classic death metal album. The riffs are really catchy and great for a death metal band not consider melodeath. I also love the epic feeling over the album.
6. Cemetary - Godless Beauty
Dark and depressive, but still quite melodic mid-paced death metal.
7. Poison - Into The Abyss
Only four songs, but great from an old school death/thrash metal band from Germany. Favourite track: Slaves.
8. At The Gates - With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness
At The Gates really had a unique style which I really love.
9. In Flames - Lunar Strain
Their most death metallic album. "Behind Space" is a big reason I brought this on the list.
10. Cemetary - An Evil Shade Of Grey
Not as melodic as "Godless Beauty", but dark and depressive.
11. Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Classic dutch death metal album.
12. Convulse - World Without God
A finnish death metal classic.
13. Lykathé - Elvenefris
The most brutal album on the list, but very beautiful and atmospheric.
14. Sorcery - Bloodchilling Tales
Overlooked swedish old scool death metal gem from 1991.
15. Deceased - As The Weird Travel On
Melodic death-influenced thrash metal. Will probably appeal to fans of Gothenburg metal.
16. Deceased - Fearless Undead Machines
Melodic death-influenced thrash metal. Will probably appeal to fans of Gothenburg metal.
17. Deceased - Supernatural Addiction
Melodic death-influenced thrash metal. Will probably appeal to fans of Gothenburg metal.
18. At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours
Death metal with a weird use of violins.
19. Amorphis - Tales From The Thousand Lakes
Classic Finnish melodic death metal album..
20. Num Skull - Ritually Abused
More thrash than death, but so great, especially the song "No Morals".
21. Slaughter - Strappado
Old school death/thrash metal from 1987.
22. Num Skull - Future - Our Terror
Death thrash metal
23. Molested - Blod-Draum
24. Dissection - Reinkaos
More death metal than black metal. Dissection's best album in my opinion.
25. Ablaze My Sorrow - Anger, Hate And Fury
Gothenburg/melodic death metal.
26. Armoured Angel - Angel Of The Sixth Order
Melodic australian death metal band.
27. Hazael - Thor
Polish underground death metal. Dark and atmospheric.
28. Asphyx - The Rack
Doom-influenced death metal. I love the vocals.
29. Carnage - Dark Recollections
Classic swedish death metal album.
30. Tiamat - Sumerian Cry
31. Autopsy - Severed Survival
32. Entombed - Clandestine
33. Entombed - Left Hand Path
The classic swedish death metal album.
34. Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream
Classic swedish death metal album.
35. In Flames - Whoracle
"Gyroscope" and "Jester Script Transfigured" are the reasons why I still rate this album high enough for this list.
36. Insanity - Death After Death
Old school death metal with a thrash element.
37. Master - On The Seventh Day God Created... Master
Classic death metal. I especially love the song "America the Pitiful".
38. Burial (Nl) - Relinquished Souls
Dutch old school death metal.
39. Vibrion - Diseased
Argentinian underground death metal.
40. Resurrection - Embalmed Existence

Underground death metal band from Switzerland.

I recently found Slaughter's album Strappado, and found it great enough to include on the list. I didn't know before there were any death metal bands, except for Possessed, who released album prior to Death. I also prefer Slaughter over anything Death has created.

Not really prior to Death, maybe the album was out about month before Scream Bloody Gore but Death's demo's wee out before those of Slaughter and Chuck even worked with Slaughter for a short while

I'm so glad you're here to inform me of all those things I didn't know. By the way I think it was through one of your old posts I discovered Slaughter.

I relatively recently discovered Sorcery's Bloodchilling Tales. Great album, musically somewhere between Entombed and Cemetary. It made it all the way to top 10.
